On behalf of Cyclone Speech and Debate, we are excited to invite your program to the Russellville High School campus October 13, 2018 for the Cyclone BQ and WSD Smash.

 

The tournament will be open to any interested junior & high school forensics & debate programs seeking competition in Big Question (BQ) and World Schools Debate (WSD).  The Cyclone BQ and WSD Smash is a sanctioned tournament under Arkansas Communication & Theatre Arts Association (ACTAA) where competitors will be provided the opportunity to qualify for the Arkansas State Forensics & Debate Championship tournament.

 

The tournament will be hosted on Tabroom, a service of NSDA, at http://cyclonedebate.tabroom.com/ Teams will be required to setup an account in Tabroom to register for the tournament. Programs are encouraged to setup accounts for their judges and competitors to receive updates via email/text on assignments, tournament schedule, pre-tournament updates, breaks, and post-tournament reports will be posted on this site.

The tournament will be headquartered Russellville High School (2203 S. Knoxville Ave, Russellville, AR 72802); where registration, debate prep, and tabulation will be hosted. We hope to offer you a fun and educational competitive event.

 

Big Question Motion: Resolved: Humans are primarily driven by self-interest

 

The World Schools Debate Motions are

Round 1: This House would prioritize asteroid mining over establishing human settlements on Mars.

Round 2: This House supports the addition of an African nation as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council.

Round 3: This House regrets the rise of call-out culture.

Round 4 (if needed) This House would restrict the use of economic sanctions to responding to human rights violations.

Round 5 (if needed) Impromptu

· Due to the overlap in Big Question Break Rounds and the beginning of WSD rounds, teams need to be ready to sub in 4 & 5 WSD team members for speaking in the early rounds if needed. We are going to strive to maintain schedule efficiency. Clearly this only applies to debaters that are double entered and break to the last rounds of BQ
