SHERIDAN BRONCS SPEECH & DEBATE INVITATIONAL

DECEMBER 6th & 7th 2019

Coaches:

The Sheridan High School Speech & Debate Team invites you to attend our 2019 tournament on Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th. We will be offering four prelim rounds and a finals round. In LD and PF during finals, there will be a semis debate followed immediately by a final debate. We will host varsity and novice divisions of all events, except Congress which is mixed with novice and varsity. No policy debate will be offered. Please adhere to the commonly accepted rules for each event, such as times for speeches, when to use a manuscript, etc. Extemp will contain both international and domestic questions.

Debate Topics:

Nov/Dec LD Topic: Resolved: The United States ought to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels.

Nov/Dec PF Topic: Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms.

Congress:

Congressional debate is offered in both patterns and is a mix of varsity and novice. We expect the varsity members to take charge of voting for chair, setting the rules of the day and setting the docket at the onset of the preliminary and final rounds of competition.

We will be using the C Docket for Congress. Please bring your own copies of the legislation. 

Doubling:

Students may double in each pattern at their own risk, except when entered in LD, PF, or Congress. Students doubling in Extemp may not receive complete prep time.

Registration:

• Please register on the Tabroom website.

• Please have preliminary entries submitted by Monday, December 2nd.

• Entries will close Wednesday, December 4th at 7:00 PM, with only drops allowed after that time.

• Registration will be held in the foyer/entry of Sheridan High School from 12:00-1:30PM on Friday.

Awards:

We will have awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in all events and finalist ribbons for 4th-6th place.

Entry Fees:

Individual events and LD will be assessed a fee of $10.00 and teams in Duo and PF will be assessed a fee of $15.00

Meals: You may purchase tickets for meals “on campus” so you don’t have to hassle leaving or having meals delivered. In addition, we will keep the meal time open for quite a while so all your kiddos can eat, despite their varying competition schedule. Please join us!

Friday’s Dinner: Spaghetti Bake, salad, bread and dessert for $8.00/per person

Saturday Lunch: Walking Tacos with all the goodies, and dessert for $6.00 per person.

**Please pre-purchase these tickets which we will include in your registration materials to ensure your team will be included in our meal count.
