I currently teach Theater Arts, African American / Latinx American Literature, and English I at Pinole Valley High School. I am looking into teaching Speech and Debate and appreciate the invaluable experience I gain when judging competitions. I tend to defer to the competitors in regard to the pace of the debate and I do not appreciate coaches coaching during the actual debate. Other than that, I think that I am an unbiased, open-minded judge that allows for students to shine by demonstrating their knowledge on the topics being debated.

I am the parent of a current speech competitor. I have lot of experience in judging debates of various formats. I will make my evaluation based on the quality of the arguments and how well they are articulated.

I am a parent judge from northern California I've been involved in debate since the year 2018. I judge mostly on the local and state qualifying events. Feel free to ask questions before the round.
Debate:
Make your arguments concisely. Speak slowly. I like quality than quantity. If you make your argument with right evidence and arguments that will help. Be clear. Back your arguments with data and impact.
Be respectful about the other debater.
Don't use the data that is out of scope for the given case. I will also look at the delivery of your argument.

I am a parent judge in my second year of judging . I prefer to see a traditional debate with a slow communication emphasis and a conversational rate of speech. I want the debaters to tell me exactly why I am casting my ballot for them and why I should prefer their arguments to their opponents.
I do not accept sent cases. Please do not spread. Speaker quality is very important, be respectful during cross but I do not dock a speaker if they cut off their opponent.

I'm a smart (enough) person. But talk to me like I've never heard about this issue before.
Be organized and logical. I can keep a flow chart. So don't drop arguments, but also DON'T spend too much time gloating if you think your opponent drops an argument. And unintelligible speed is for policy / cross-ex debate -- not LD. You can move through your arguments quickly, but I want you to persuade me.

I am a parent judge and I prefer competitors keeping a slow pace while speaking. I also prefer well-articulated arguments where candidates are getting across their point. The complexity of the arguments is not an issue, as I have a daughter that debates as well. However, I would prefer if they are easier to understand.
I end up weighing the rounds largely based upon the refutations. To get my ballot, refutations should be logical, well-reasoned, and well-presented.
Candidates should also be nice to each other. Not respecting your opponent is a big no-no for me.
Overall, just have fun when you debate!

I usually take notes during the round and I use it at the end of the round to make my decision.
The key things I look for are as follows:
Fluency
Relevancy
Eye Contact during the presentation
Clarity while making the argument and logical flow
Extent of research and facts
Impact analysis
Effectiveness during cross examination

Hello, I am Sameena. For judging purposes I'm best considered a Flay Judge. Add me to the email chain using sameena_yp@yahoo.com.
Preferences:
- Please do not speak too fast as it can be difficult to understand and I cannot understand any spreading. You should always be clear over being fast. Finish your speeches on time with a 7 second grace period.
- You should be providing signposting and off-time roadmaps so I can pay close attention to the debate and to help me flow easily.
- Make sure you send me the speech docs before the round using my email (sameena_yp@yahoo.com) as I tend to be hard of hearing.
- I cannot assess progressive justification and forms of argumentation (T, Theory, Kritiks, etc.), so I kindly request you do not read it as I won't assess it.
- I have not done much research on this topic so please do not assume I have prior knowledge.
- Let me and your opponents know when you are taking prep time.
- You should not interrupt, cut off, or be disrespectful to any of your opponents whether in a speech or during crossfire. Speaker points will be docked in any case for this behavior and anything racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. will not be tolerated.
Make sure to have fun, relax, and do your best!
