We are excited to announce the 2nd Annual Digital Speech & Debate e-Championship! This is a collaborative venture between the Tournament of Champions and the National Speech & Debate Association to provide an accessible, cost-effective online championship opportunity for your students in grades 9-12. Thank you to the NAUDL, NCFL, NIETOC, and NFHS for their support of this event.

Dates

  • May 3-5, 2024

Entries

  • Debate: No double entry is permitted
  • Speech: Competitors may enter up to three total events (no more than two per pattern)
  • Pattern A: USX, IX, DEC, DI, DUO, INF, PRO, STO
    • Competitors in USX or IX may not double enter in Pattern A
  • Pattern B: HI, OO, POI, POE, IMP, SW

Qualification

  • Novice: Open invitational for competitors in grades 9-10 and in their first year of competition
  • Varsity: Competitors in grades 9-12 must meet at least one qualification below
    • One TOC Bid
    • 500 NSDA Honor Society Points (Special Distinction)
    • Urban Debate National Championship Qualifier
    • All-State/Festival Outstanding Performer
    • NSDA National Tournament Qualifier
    • NCFL Grand Nationals Qualifier
    • State Tournament Champion
    • NIETOC Qualifier

Fees

  • $50 per school
  • $50 per student entry
  • Waivers available for Title I schools

Event Helpline: Each event's designated email helpline is below. Please review all tournament documentation before submitting a help ticket, and do not attempt to contact tournament staff via their personal email or phone number. Any issues must be reported via the designated email helpline for that event in order to receive a response.

Tab Issue – Issues with e-ballot, pairing, judging, etc.

Missing Participant – Judges and/or competitors absent from rounds

Tech Issue – Tech issues of any kind, including difficulty accessing virtual rooms

Tech Time – If invoking tech time (see Tournament Procedures), notify tab staff of the time started and time zone, then provide an update when the issue is resolved or tech time concludes

Procedure Issue – Procedural questions and/or concerns, including inquiries about filing a petition with the Ombuds Office

Equity Issue – Equity questions and/or concerns, including inquiries about filing a petition with the Equity Office about an equity, harassment, discrimination, or bullying incident
