Bishop Kelley Comet Challenge

Dear Speech and Debate Coaches,

Welcome to the Bishop Kelley Comet Challenge!

I hope this letter finds you well. We are thrilled to extend an invitation to your school's 5A, 6A, and Novice Squads to the 2023 “Comet Challenge” Speech and Debate Tournament, which will take place on November 10th and 11th. This year, we are proud to host the event at Bishop Kelley High School , located at 3905 South Hudson Avenue in Tulsa Oklahoma.

We encourage participating schools to adhere to the 3:15 PM arrival time to ensure a smooth start to the rounds. Our goal is to create a fantastic experience for all participants.

We have a new Dining Hall for your students to congregate - Please look for signs. It is near where the old cafeteria was. We also have new classrooms and maps will be uploaded soon.

The tournament fees for the Bishop Kelley Speech and Debate Tournamene will be consistent with OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) guidelines. These fees are designed to cover the cost of organizing and running the event while keeping it accessible for all schools.

This year, we are excited to feature all OSSAA events, including pilot events - Informative Speaking and Program of Oral Interpretation. We believe that these events will provide an enriching experience for your students and help them further develop their speech and debate skills. All Pilot Events will also earn medals!

DEBATE TOPIC NOTICE!

All Divisions will be debating the following topics-

LD- November- December Topic. Resolved: The United States ought ot prohibit the extraction of fossil fuels from federal public lands and waters.

PF- November- December Topic. Resolved: The United States federal government should forgive all federal student loan debt.

Policy Debate Topic. Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income.

We will be using electronic balloting. Please let your judges know they will need to have tabroom accounts and bring their own electronic devices.
