Event Description:
Students will draw two topics for the round. They will choose one and put the other back and immediately begin preparation. Other students must not look at the topics that were not chosen.
Speakers will be given five minutes TOTAL to prepare AND deliver a speech. This means speakers must take less than four minutes to prepare so they can give at least a one-minute-and-thirty-second speech, at most three minutes. It is recommended that students spend no more than three minutes preparing.
Students can use blank paper or a notecard to prepare their speeches. It is suggested they use a notecard. They may not use a computer and are absolutely restricted from using the internet during preparation.
Judging should be based on the argument presented and its relevance to the topic chosen. Presentation may be a factor for speaker points as well (such as delivery and gestures), but strong and interesting argumentation should be the main factor for deciding the top speaker.
