Stratford Novice Tournament
2019 — Milpitas, CA/US
Events
Debate
For Debate, Stratford will host both Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum. While this is a Novice tournament, we will not use the Novice topics for either event.
Lincoln-Douglas
We will use the Nov topic for Lincoln-Douglas: "In a democracy, the public's right to know ought to be valued above the right to privacy of candidates for public office." Students will be permitted to use laptops in round, but they are not to use wifi during the round. Students using digital equipment must have some way to present their cards to their opponents if asked in cross, so either bring a paper copy or another reading device to present cards upon request. Failure to be able to present requested information will have repercussions.
Public Forum
We will use the Jan topic for Public Forum: "The United States federal government should prioritize reducing the federal debt over promoting economic growth." Again, students will be permitted to use laptops in round, but they are not to use wifi during the round; no researching during round. Students using digital equipment must have some way to present their cards to their opponents if asked in cross, so either bring a paper copy or another reading device to present cards upon request. Failure to be able to present requested information will have repercussions.
Speech
We will have four events in Speech at this tournament: Original Oratory, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, and Duo Interp.
Modified Rules: Speeches for all four events will be capped at 5 minutes per speaker or team (for Duo Interp).
