HUMOROUS INTERPRETATION

The selection shall require no more than ten minutes. There is a 30-second grace period. Students who exceed the time limit by more than thirty seconds should not be given first place in the panel.

The selection should be a cutting from a single published work such as a novel, short story, play, or poetry. Generally, NSDA Rules on publication of sources shall apply, except to the extent MHSAA Rules are more demanding, in which case they will control. The original source of the piece must be a present and a digital copy of the cutting should be available at the tournament for verification purposes.

The selection must be memorized. Students may move in any direction, but should remember that this is a contest in interpretation, not in solo acting.

The performance should be funny. Otherwise, what is the point? But of course, it may incorporate serious points or convey a serious message through humor.
