Sports Extemp
Event Description:
Sports extemp is intended to provide students with a fun event not available at most invitationals, and also to give you a way to encourage kids with extemp potential to give the event a try. The format will be slightly different from traditional extemp, to try to give more kids a chance to participate in the event.
-a list of potential questions will be provided to you to share with your students the Wednesday before the tournament. Your kids can start doing some research on general subjects to prepare. Please try to keep your kids in the spirit of extemp and encourage them to not prep an entire speech. Again, this is supposed to be Extemp Lite™ for kids who may otherwise be on the fence.
-Rather than 30m prep, 7m speech, sports extemp will have 15m prep and 5m speech.
-same rules regarding research and outside communication will apply to sports extemp as would traditional extemp.
-sports extemp will not have finals, will not count for sweepstakes, and does not count towards state qualification in extemp of any kind. There will still be awards given to top 6 based on cumulative prelim scores.
