Event Description:
A judge in each section/room shall be provided an envelope containing a uniform set oftopics, with a different subject area used for each round. Once the first speaker is called,the speaker will draw three topics, choose one, and return the other two to the envelope.Other students are expected to quietly wait for their turn and provide a respectful audience for the speaker. The speaker shall not disclose the topics that were returned to theenvelope.
The speaker has 7 minutes with a 30s grace period in which to prepare and present a speech without consultation of prepared notes (other than the note card prepared during the 7 minutes).
During preparation time, it is advised and appropriate for the judge togive one minute time callouts (6 minutes remaining, 5 minutes remaining, etc.). After thespeaker reaches 7 minutes, the judge shall raise their hand in a fist to indicate grace timehas begun.
