Impromptu Speaking Middle
Event Description:
Impromptu (IMP) is a public speaking event where students have seven minutes to select a topic, brainstorm their ideas, outline, and deliver a speech. The speech is given without notes and uses an introduction, body, and conclusion. The student draws three prompts from a judge upon entering the room and chooses one. Once the selection is made, the timer starts. The student prepares, and delivers their speech all within the seven minute time limit. The speech can be lighthearted or serious. Prompts for each round are connected by theme but range from nursery rhymes, current events, historical events, celebrities, organizations, quotes, etc. The student may interpret the prompt in any way they see fit, as long as their interpretation of the prompt is clear and convincing.
