Event Description:
This event is only open to students in their first year of competition (including middle school).
NOTE: This competition will be using the annual NOVICE topic as published by the NSDA for Lincoln Douglas Debate.
Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
NSDA rules on sources and preparation will be followed. Internet connectivity and outside communication are prohibited while in competition.
Description:
Students will present and debate arguments in affirmation or negation of the assigned resolution.
The structure of a debate is as follows
Affirmative Constructive - 6 minutes
Cross-Examination - 3 minutes
Negative Constructive and Rebuttal - 7 minutes
Cross-Examination - 3 minutes
Affirmative Rebuttal - 4 minutes
Negative Rebuttal - 6 minutes
Affirmative Rebuttal - 3 minutes
Students may use up to 4 minutes of preparation time each at their discretion during the debate.
The use of notes or aides while speaking is permitted. Students may use electronic devices, but may not connect to the internet at any time.
