McAlester HS Speech Debate Tournament

2020 — McAlester, OK/US

The students of the McAlester High School Competitive Speech & Drama team are pleased to invite you to the McAlester High School Speech & Debate Tournament on February 21-22, 2020, at McAlester High School. We will be hosting all classes: 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, Novice, and Champs. This will be a qualifying tournament and will be run according to the rules set forth by the O.S.S.A.A. (Please see the speech manual for more information). We will offer all sanctioned events. Debate will be held on Friday and I.E. events will be held on Saturday.

Registration will take place in the Lucy Smith Student Activity Center, the first building as you enter our campus. The school, located at 1 Buffalo Dr, is off of E Van Buren Ave. in McAlester. For Friday, please note that school does not let out until 3:23 pm and I must tell you that our school has recently closed our back entrance and exit so there is only one way in and one way out. This has caused our traffic to be intense. I have been told that people start lining up around 3pm. So, if you want to come early to avoid that, you can drop off in front of the Smith Center and then please park in the furthest west parking lot in front of our fine arts building. There is room in the activity center to hold students until our classes are out for the day.

Friday, Feb. 21: Registration 3:00 – 3:45 p.m.

Debate rounds begin at 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 22: Registration for I.E.’s 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.

I.E. Rounds begin at 8:00 a.m.

Awards assembly to follow final round

A more detailed schedule will be sent to all coaches Thursday after final registration has been completed. More information about the tournament is listed below. Please feel free to contact me at the included number or email if you have any questions or concerns. We hope that you will consider joining us!

Sincerely,

Nicole Green, M.Ed.

Accommodations: There are many hotels within close proximity to our school. As well as many local restaurants. If you need help finding accommodations please let me know!

General Rules/Reminders: I am sure that our student handbook looks much like yours. I would just remind everyone that this is a tobacco free campus.
