Platform

Registration, pairings, and ballots will be on Tabroom.
All events except duo will take place live on Zoom.
UW staff will facilitate the use of Zoom during the tournament.

If your school district is hostile towards Zoom, please reach out and contact me. I am happy to get on the phone with your district’s tech coordinator to make the case for an exception (this worked at States).

Please consider me to be on-call 24/7 for any questions you have about the tournament both in the lead-up to the tournament and during the tournament.

Please Update Zoom (debaters, judges, coaches – everyone)

The version of Zoom released in late September makes hosting a tournament on Zoom far easier for both the host and participants. Everyone, from participants, judges, and coaches, should make sure they have the latest version of Zoom downloaded. Coaches should repeatedly tell both their judges and debaters to do this, and confirm that they have.

Zoom Naming Convention

A uniform naming convention on Zoom is vital to running a smooth tournament. It helps us to do room check efficiently and make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be, thereby preventing delays. Every participant at the tournament, from debaters, to judges, to observers, should use the following naming convention:

X-School-Name

X should be C, J, or O, for Competitor, Judge, or Observer.

Examples:

J-UW-Matt Liu (he/him)

C-LHS-Amar Johnson

O-East-Marcus Viney

Please remind all of your participants to adopt this naming convention on Zoom. We will blast out Tabroom reminders if folks are not following the naming convention, and it will get annoying.

Duo: Uploading Videos

If you're having trouble finding where to upload videos, go to Tabroom, then login and click your username at the top corner. Click on the "University of Wyoming High School Tournament" line, then click entries. Under your duo entries you should be able to click in the "changes" section with a "blue box with a paper and pen." This should then let you "link to performance video" where you can add the link then save your entry details.

Debate Events: Disclosure

Judges in policy (CX) and LD should write a paradigm on Tabroom.com describing how they judge.

We highly encourage argument disclosure and evidence sharing in LD & policy (CX).

You can read our take on argument disclosure here: https://wyodebateroundup.weebly.com/blog/the-case-for-argument-disclosure

Similarly, we believe that in all debate events, sharing evidence before speeches creates better debates. To facilitate this, debaters can email each other the evidence they plan to read in their speech. In policy debate in particular, rigorously scrutinizing evidence is what sets this event apart. Evidence cannot be rigorously scrutinized if it cannot be viewed.

Finally, disclosure of decisions and oral feedback is strongly encouraged for any judge that feels comfortable with it. You can find our full take on decision disclosure and oral feedback here: https://wyodebateroundup.weebly.com/blog/the-case-for-oral-disclosure-and-feedback
