Welcome to the TJHSST Intramural! This tournament is hosted for students of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology debate team. The top two teams will qualify for the roster for VHSL. Best of luck!

Logistics

The tournament will be hosted on Zoom, with all teams joining the main link and being placed into breakout rooms. The topic will be the NSDA March topic, Resolved: On balance, the benefits of creating the United States Space Force outweigh the harms.

The tournament will be a round robin format, with each team debating every other team in the pool once (one team will receive a bye each round). There will be five rounds on Saturday, 3/6. All rounds will be using the Tabroom flip feature to flip for both sides and speaking order. The schedule is as follows:

R1 - 11am

R2 - 1pm

R3 - 2pm

R4 - 3pm

R5 - 4pm

Finals - 5pm

After the fifth round finishes, the ballots will be counted and the top two teams will be announced in the main room (as well as the top speakers). There will also be a finals round between the top two teams (if they both agree).

All rounds will have two judges on the panel.

Judges are advised to disclose and provide feedback.

Spectators/Coaches

Spectators and coaches are allowed to observe the round, but they must keep their microphones muted and their cameras off. No outside help is allowed. If a team is caught cheating, they will immediately be disqualified.
