AWARDS PRESENTATION for Speech, Congress, LD, and PF
Greetings, colleagues!
The NSDA GA Northern Mountain District Tournament will take place online on February 18th and February 19th. Your district committee hopes to see as many member schools in attendance as possible.
For member schools, this tournament serves as the qualification tournament for NSDA Nationals held in June. This year, at this point, the tournament will be in-person in Louisville, KY in mid-June. It is also a wonderful opportunity to allow students another tournament to hone their skills in Speech and Debate.
WE HAVE PROVIDED A GUIDE TO REGISTERING FOR THE TOURNAMENT, FOUND IN THE MENU ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS TABROOM PAGE. If you need further help navigating information, just let us know. Feel free to contact district chair, Mario Herrera, at rioherrera@gmail.com or 404-242-2297.
Your district committee is:
Mario Herrera, Midtown HS, Chair
Jonathan Waters, Northview HS
Jamie Wills, Cherokee HS
David Gay, Dunwoody HS
Mary Kay Waterman, The Lovett School
SCHEDULE
We will post a tentative schedule in the next week or so. I can tell you that we plan on beginning the tournament in all events on Friday, February 18 no earlier than 4:30pm, and will continue throughout the day on Saturday, February 19, into the evening.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15 AT 5:00PM
ENTRY RESTRICTIONS
Students may enter only one debate division. Students in Policy, Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum Debate may NOT enter any Speech event, but they may enter Student Congress.
A student may enter up to two Speech events EXCEPT they may not enter both US Extemp and International Extemp and may not enter Policy Debate, Public Forum Debate or Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Students in Speech events may enter Student Congress as well as their other Speech event(s).
JUDGING
Please do all you can to meet judging requirements. Finding judges has become difficult in a virtual world but we can’t run the tournament without them. It is vital that every school meet their judging requirements. The district will do what it can to supplement judges, but that is only a supplement.
CONGRESSIONAL LEGISLATION
Each school entering Congressional Debate should submit legislation by Friday, February 11. Email legislation to Mario Herrera at rioherrera@gmail.com. NOTE: all legislation must follow NSDA guidelines. Guidelines for legislation can be found by clicking here.
DISTRICT AWARDS
Additionally, take a look at the District Awards page and nominate coaches, volunteers and a student for the many award opportunities available.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I hope you join us for this wonderful competition!
