Welcome to the 2022 version of the Wylie Bulldog/Snyder Tiger Speech and Debate Swing Tournament. The event will be held at Wylie High School in Abilene, Tx. WE are overjoyed to be bringing quality debate tournaments back to Abilene, TX. We will offer a full slate of TFA Qualifying events this year. Each side of the tournament will host Policy, Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate rounds. For Speaking events, we will have Domestic and Foreign Extemporaneous, Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, and Impromptu Speaking. And for your interp students, we will offer Prose, Poetry, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Duet Acting, and Program Oral Interp (POI).

Something new we will be adding is that in addition to team and individual trophies, we will offer the Top Speaker, Top Debater, and Top Interper. The top speaker with the highest points average of all rounds, that is entered into both tournaments will receive the top overall Debater award (a Mini Belt), and the top interp student will be awarded the Top Interpret Mini Belt. Interpers must be entered in at least four interp, 2 per tournament, (DUO, DUET, PRO, POE, POI, HI, DI) events across both tournaments (top overall points). Top Speaker will receive a top speaker Mini-Belt, as well. Events considered will be FX, DX, INFO, OO, IMP. Student must enter at least three events over the course of both tournaments.

Topics will be as follows:

CX:

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.

PFD:

Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms.

LD:

Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.

Congress will use the TFA Docket as follows:

Tiger Congress 1-5 Prelims, and 6-10 Finals

Bulldog Congress 1-10 Evens for Prelims, and 1-10 odds for Finals

As per the initiative by the TFA Council, students from both host school will be allowed to compete at this tournament, including advancing to elimination rounds. for waitlist inclusion, students not associated with host schools will be given priority over host schools students. No preference (speaking order, Cross Entry issues, etc.) will be given to any host school students. Host students will be ineligible for Top Speaker, Top Debater, and Top Interpreter awards.
