2022 ICDA 1

Dear Congressional Debate Coach,


Grayslake Central High School invites you and your debaters to the ICDA 1 Debate Tournament and Novice Workshop on Saturday September 24, 2022. Varsity will compete in the invitational tournament consisting of 3 sessions and Novice debaters will take part in the Novice Workshop and debate for 2 sessions.

Bus Parking Information:
Enter on Hillside Street (north side of the school). Once on Hillside, turn left in the 2nd parking lot entrance and drop off under the green GCHS letters. Debaters will enter at Door #29 or Door #30. There is a volleyball tournament at the school so school busses may not park in the main lot. Bus parking is available in the Municipal Parking Lot across the street at the Northwest corner of Hillside St. and Lake St. or at the Grayslake Aquatic Center: 250 Library Lane, Grayslake, IL.

Legislation: Legislation for ICDA 1 was received on August 31st. All 9 bills will be debated at the Varsity level and 6 bills at the Novice level. The 3 Varsity Only Bills are 103, 203, and 302.

Entry Deadline: All entries are due by 5:00 P.M. Friday September 16th on tabroom.com.
A school may enter up to 45 debaters at the Varsity level. There is no limit to the number of Novice entries.

ICDA Annual Dues: All schools must pay $20 to ICDA in dues to participate. Please bring a separate check or mail in advance to:

Team Rooms: Each team will be assigned a team room. This is where each team will start in the morning, and eat lunch after session 2. Team rooms will also be used as chambers, so debaters are encouraged to keep their belongings with them throughout the day.


Judging: Each school is required to provide one judge for each session for every 10 entries. The number of entries includes all students from your school entered in the Varsity and Novice levels of the tournament. The number of judges you are responsible for is based on the original entry; drops will not be considered while scheduling judges.


New Judge Training: All new ICDA judges should attend new judge training during Session 1. This includes observing a varsity chamber during Session 1. Randy Smith is in charge of new judge training.

Novice Workshop: All novice debaters will participate in a Novice Workshop during Session 1 led by a head coach. All novices will be able to observe a varsity chamber during the workshop. Head coaches, please let me know if you would like to lead a novice workshop in session 1 at cdamico@d127.org. Head coaches, please send me the names Varsity PO’s interested in being a PO in a Novice Chamber to cdamico@d127.org. If you have more than one, please rank them in order of preference. Varsity PO’s who PO in the Novice Workshop are not eligible to PO in their Varsity Chamber.


Food: A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for coaches and judges. Pizza will be available for lunch for debaters. You may order at this link: https://forms.gle/ck7ea6t9MkCFA9v18. Pizza orders need to be submitted by Friday, September 16th at 5:00 P.M. Payment for pizzas will be taken during registration on the day of the tournament.


Awards: Awards will be outside in the football stadium. Teams should sit on the bleachers by the press box.
