2023 Hot Springs/Riverside Speech and Debate Tournament

Friday and Saturday, January 6-7, 2023

Good morrow, gentle souls, and welcome to Ye Olde Renaissance Fair at the 2023 Hot Springs/Riverside Speech and Debate Tournament! We expanded back to a two-day tournament this year, and we can't wait to see you all here!

The tournament will be at Hot Springs High School. We will be offering all WSDA State events this year.

Registration will begin at 12:30pm on Friday in the commons.

A coach/judge lounge will be in the high school with snacks/meals and plenty of coffee available.

Students will be able to purchase snack items from the concession stand. A listing of restaurants and fast food places will be in each school's packet upon arrival.

Entry fees:

Entry fees will be $10 per individual student, $15 for duet and debate debate teams. A $15 team entry fee will be required as well.

We have to limit the number of entries per event (see below) due to room constraints, but please, put your students on the waiting list! I will move as many as I can into rounds as space allows. I will try to put in final moves/entries by 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 4, 2023.

HOPE, POI, Duo, and Drama will be limited to three (3) per school for each event. Doubling in pattern with Extemp Speaking is not advised. Wait list entries will be accepted.

Congress will be limited to four (4) entries per school. Wait list entries will be accepted.

Lincoln Douglas, Policy, and Public Forum will be limited to three (3) per school. No doubling is allowed in D for Policy Debaters. Wait list entries will be accepted.

Drops will be accepted through Thursday, Jan 5, 2023 at 8 p.m. After this deadline, the entry fee will be forfeited.

Debate Topics - The topics for all debates will be posted here on December 1, 2022.

The Congress Legislation will be released on Jan. 2. A link will be provided on tabroom.com. Please make sure your registered Congress students have their legislation loaded into the Wyoming Legislation database on that date. If you have judges you can bring with you, please, please do! If you have college students home for Christmas break, we can use them (and we probably need them)!

Awards:

We will begin awards in the gym asap after finals. Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each event. 4th through 6th place will also receive an award. Sweeps will be awarded to the top two finishers in 4A, 3A, and 1A/2A.
