SJS Test

2023 — Houston, TX/US

You are cordially invited to St. John's School first Middle School Speech and Debate tournament!

Two things to note: because it is our first ever tournament and to give consideration to our smaller campus, we are purposefully capping out entries and offering a limited selection of events. All entries will be waitlisted upon entry and we will admit off the waitlist to give consideration to ensuring we have entries from lots of different schools first before then filling up the tournament. We are also going to be offering World Schools Debate and Policy Debate, though we may close the events if they are low entries.

In that same vein, we will not be providing a concessions stand at this tournament. Schools should ask students to pack lunches or schedule some sort of food delivery. The good news is that St. John's has a really easy delivery address and we will still provide a hospitality room for coaches and volunteers.

We understand that this might be a deal breaker for many programs, but we decided that the option to at least provide a tournament space would outweigh the negatives and that we hope that we can figure out what works and what doesn't so that we can potentially expand this in the future. We hope you'll reconsider attending this tournament in the future once we can expand our services.

This is a 1 day tournament, taking place entirely on Saturday, January 27th, 2024.

We will have an awards ceremony and trophies for schools and individuals to take home, along with sweepstakes trophies! Because of our limitations, we will be charging very nominal fees to hopefully offset the downsides of the tournament. Thank you for considering attending our tournament and we hope to see you here!

Signed,

Jon-Carlo Canezo - Coach at St. John's School
