----------------------------------------------

We look forward to hosting our National Qualifier in Speech this Sunday, March 24th at Lowell High School in San Francisco.

1) COACH CHECK IN: Upon arrival, coaches, please check in with Tab Staff to ensure all your judges and students have arrived. Tab will be located in the back room of the library. Coaches will be assigned tasks at this time as a runner or a judge.

2) CAMPUS LOGISTICS: Student hangout will be in the cafeteria. Judge lounge will be in the library. (Upon arrival, folks are welcome to report to those areas.) Extemp prep will be Student Union (adjacent to the cafeteria in the courtyard). The Wifi will be accessible via SFUSD guest.

3) SCHEDULE: Please review thetournament procedures page before checking theschedule. As noted, all events with 12+ entries will advance to a semi-final round during Elimination round 1 (DI, IX, OO, & USX). All other events will advance to a final round during Elimination round 1 (DUO, HI, INF, & POI). Awards will take place after the conclusion of the final rounds held during Elimination round 2.

4) JUDGES: Judges were sent judge instructions Fri. evening. There will be at least 2 judges in every prelim, 3 judges in semifinals, and 5 judges in final rounds. The district committee has recruited many qualified, experienced judges to help adjudicate the rounds. This means that parent judges may not be assigned every round, however, their presence is essential for the success of this tournament. Please be prepared for this. We are grateful for GGSA parents' service leadership!

4) COACHES MAY AUDIT: Scores will be printed and placed in the Tab room at the conclusion of each round. The head coaches of each school are welcome to participate in audit review process. Any questions or concerns must be addressed by 30 minutes of the conclusion of a round (ie. round 1 by 10:30am, etc.).

5) FILLERS: If your students are participating as fillers, we thank them for their service to the district. At check-in, please help our Tab Staff by identifying which entries are Fillers and should not be scheduled beyond round 1. It's imperative that Fillers speak for a short duration during round 1. If they would like to bring a poem to read, they are welcome to do so.

----------------------------------------------

We are proud to welcome you to the College Preparatory School in Oakland to judge Congress, Lincoln Douglas, Policy and Public Forum Debate in person!

Please ARRIVE BY 8AM on Saturday March 16, 2023!

LOCATION and PARKING

The school is at the corner of Broadway and Brookside just down a driveway. There should be ample parking in the school lot, but please do be careful to remove all valuables from vehicles.

HOSPITALITY

JUDGES & COACHES - coffee, pastry, lunch and refreshments will be served in the Faculty Kitchen (upstairs above the Main Office). Room D4 (just across the hallway) is another place to sit and eat indoors. Judges are welcome to enjoy the Library as a quiet space, but there is no eating or drinking allowed in the Library.

COMPETITORS - May hang out in the Student Commons and outside. (The Auditorium is not available for our use.) The Cougar Cafe is a small vending room next to the Student Commons where we will be selling food and concessions!

CHECK YOUR TABROOM ACCOUNT

At this tournament, we will not have a paper judge sign-in sheet or many verbal instructions. The text message function oftabroom.com no longer works. You can receive messages in tabroom if you sign up (click the red bell in the upper right corner of the page), but the most reliable way to see if you have a ballot is to check your account. If you click on your email address (in the upper right), you should see your upcoming ballots. Please refresh the screen frequently after the scheduled time for the blast, in case a ballot is substituted to you. When you do receive a ballot, please press the green "START ROUND" button immediately. This is a way to indicate that you accept the assignment and are reporting to the room to judge!

BE REACHABLE

Please make sure that your correct cell phone number is in your tab room account, as well as your current cell phone provider. In addition, it is important that you keep your phone charged and that you leave space in your voicemail for messages. We need to be able to get in touch with you during the tournament.

THREE JUDGE PANELS

All rounds have three judges. Do not allow the debaters to start until all three judges are present.

Judges reach independent decisions and should not consult with each other about the debate.

There is no disclosure of results by judges at the district tournament. Please do not give an oral reason for decision.

INSTRUCTIONS, SCHEDULES, TOPICS and more

You can find judge instructions, schedules, topics and more on the tabroom website for this tournament linkedhere. Be sure to check out the yellow buttons on the right for lots of useful info!
