Entry Procedures:

1) Region entry forms must be completed and emailed to Sheryl Gusman no later than 9:00 pm on Thursday, January 18.

2) Competitors and judges must also be entered via the tournament Tabroom website:

3) In order for students to get round assignments, students are required to have Tabroom.com accounts linked to your team Competitor Roster in order to access the online NSDA Campus competition platform. These videos will help with this—

4) Judges must also have Tabroom.com accounts linked to your Judge Roster in order to access NSDA Campus. The judges create their account similar to the student process (they just go the Judge route instead of the Student one). The judge's account is linked to your team's Judge Roster in much the same way.

2023‐24 VHSL Extemporaneous Speaking Topic Areas REGION:

Round 1 – U.S. court cases

Round 2 – The Middle East

Round 3 – Sports and Entertainment

Eligibility:

Competitors must comply with VHSL eligibility requirements.

*REMINDER: In order to participate, each school must have a coach or school representative on site during the entire tournament.*

Judges:

Schools are required to bring at least one qualified judge for each event entered. Qualified judges are completely familiar with the goals and round format/structure of the event. Coaches may register as judges, and all judges will be paid a per diem VHSL stipend of $30.

Individual Awards:

First, Second and Third place winners will receive recognition. A fourth-place call-up will be announced. First, Second and Third place will participate in the VHSL Super Regional Tournament. No substitutions beyond fourth place are allowed by VHSL rules (111.1.1). It is the responsibility of the school of the student dropping to contact Sheryl Gusman in a timely manner so that she may contact the school of the call-up student. The goal of Regionals is to provide a complete slate of competitors for Super Regionals at E.C. Glass HS on 2/25/2023.

Team Awards: The team with the greatest number of place points will be declared the Super Regional Champion. The team with the second greatest number of place points will be declared the Super Regional runner up. First place earns 7 points, second place earns 5 points, third place earns 3 points, and fourth place earns 1 point. If there is a tie, the team with more first place winners will be declared the Super Regional Champion. If still tied, the total speaker points of the first-place winners will break the tie.

Coaches may register as judges, and all judges will be paid a per diem VHSL stipend of $30.

Schedule/Rounds:

Registration is between 8:30–9:00 am. A Coaches & Judges meeting will occur around 9:00 am, and rounds should begin at the conclusion of the meeting. The number of competitors will determine the schedule and number of rounds. All determinations will be in accordance with the VHSL Handbook and Regional Directors Kit.

Protests:

Protests must be filed within 60 minutes of the published results.
