Events Offered

The Bulldog Invitational will host the following events:

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Lincoln-Douglas debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed. Novice and Varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate will have five (5) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed.

Novice divisions are for first year students only. They should have no previous HS debate experience from previous years (with the exception of MS level experience). If students have previous HS debate experience, coaches should register these students in the Varsity division.

Lincoln-Douglas debate will use the November/December LD topic.

Policy Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Policy debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed. Policy Debate will have four (4) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed.

Novice divisions are for first year students only. They should have no previous HS debate experience from previous years (with the exception of MS level experience). If students have previous HS debate experience, coaches should register these students in the Varsity division.

Public Forum Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Public Forum debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed. Novice and Varsity Public Forum debate will have five (5) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed.

Public Forum debate will use the November/December PF topic.

Eight (8) events will be offered this year:

Extemporaneous Speaking

Humorous Interpretation

Informative Speaking

Original Oratory

Program Oral Interpretation

Spontaneous Speaking

All NSDA rules and time limits will be followed. Students may single or double enter in any of the IE events; each entry will be charged as a separate entry. There will be four (4) rounds before breaking to finals, if needed. NOTE: Individual events are offered Saturday only. Teams bringing students for both days of competition can enter their IE students in the Friday only Congress, if desired.

Student Congress

All NSDA rules and time limits will apply to Student Congress. Presiding Officers will not be eligible for speaking awards, although they will receive a gavel for presiding. One Presiding Officer per chamber for the entire session. Each school may submit a maximum of three (3) pieces of legislation. Bettendorf also strongly suggests that each school submits a minimum of one piece of legislation. All legislation needs to be received by Friday, November 8th, 2024. These bills/resolutions should be uploaded on Tabroom. Legislative packets will then be posted on Tabroom by Monday, November 11th, 2024. The docket will be set at that point and sent out to schools. NOTE: Congress will be offered Friday only. Students participating in both days of competition are encouraged to enter in the Individual Events for Saturday.
