Dear Coaches,

The University of Kansas and Kansas State University debate teams are pleased to invite you to the second annual Sunflower Swings, hosted January 3^rd to 9^th, 2025. The swings will feature two, 6-round tournaments each with three divisions of debate on the 2024-2025 CEDA-NDT clean energy topic. The tournament will clear to an appropriate number of elimination rounds for each division; however, we will collapse Novice into JV if necessary. The tournament will be hybrid, accommodating both in-person and online entries.

The University of Kansas tournament will take place from the 3^rd to 5^th in Lawrence, KS. There will be a day off and travel day on the 6^th, followed by the Kansas State tournament from the 7^th to 9^th in Manhattan, KS. Participation in both debate tournaments is a prerequisite to winning the Sunflower Swing Award given to the team with the best preliminary round record across both tournaments.

As a public university, the University of Kansas campus is open to the public. KU is not responsible for individuals who are not registered by a college or university attending the tournament and the tournament will not provide food or catering for any un-registered individuals.

Judges:

Each school is required to bring 3 rounds of judging per entry. All judges are obligated through the first full elimination round, or one round past the elimination of their teams from the tournament.

Fees:

Fees will be $50/person. We will provide trophies, two lunches, and light snacks and coffee during breakfast all days. There are a lot of great dining options on Mass St., which is a small walk from campus.

For schools that hire judges not employed by another program, they are responsible for paying for paying the hired judge’s entry fee.
