Tournament information
Entry Limitations
Schools or sponsoring organizations will be limited to 10 entries in each event
Entry fees (non-PISD schools/entities)
To help defray tournament costs, schools from outside of Plano ISD will be charged a $10 per entry. Please bring payment or proof of payment with you on the day of the tournament
Congress guidelines:
90 minute round; 45 minute limit for each item. The legislation that will be used can be found here:

3 item docket w/ a 2 item agenda (The agenda will rotate the legislation per round)
Agenda's will be pre-set before each round
We will schedule no more than 8 contestants in a chamber, giving each contestant ample time to speak
Public Forum (Resolution used will be: The United States should establish a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement with the European Union)
3 minute constructive and rebuttal speeches
2 minute cross examination periods after the constructive and rebuttal speeches
2 minute summary and final focus speeches
Grand cross fire will take place between the summary and final focus speeches
Poetry/Prose
Must use a binder
May have up to four poems from a published source. If more than one poem, they must have the same theme or author
7 minute limit with a 30 second grace period
Dramatic/Humorous Interp
Must be from a published source. No props or costumes
7 minute time with a 30 second grace period
Lip Synch
Must provide own music. May use props, costumes, makeup. Choreograph or tell a story through the lyrics
5 minute time limit with no grace period
Extemporaneous Speaking
Extemp topics will be drawn from the following areas:
IX: Eastern Europe, Russia, and Australia
DX:Crime and the Courts
7 minute limit with a 30 second grace period
Original Oratory
Must be the original work of the competitor
7 minute limit with a 30 second grace period
Reader's Theater
3-6 people with blocking/movement encouraged
7 minute time limit with a 30 second grace period
Musical Pantomime
1-4 people. No spoken dialogue or sounds may be used. Music may not contain lyrics or speech of any kind. Must provide their own music.
5 minute time limit with no grace period
Storyelling (6th grade only)
Material from a published children's story
Memorized with no props/costuming
6 minute time limit with a 30 second grace period
Duet Acting
Interpretation Event following those source guidelines
7 minute time limit with a 30 second grace period
Lincoln Douglas (The resolution will be Resolved: The United States ought to adopt a wealth tax)
5 minute Affirmative Constructive
6 minute Negative Constructive
3 minute Affirmative Rebuttal
5 minute Negative Rebuttal
2 minute Affirmative Rebuttal
World Schools Debate
6 minute substantive speeches and 3 minutes reply speeches
Prepared motions will be released no later than November 22
3-5 persons per team
Teams will debate both sides of the motion in Rounds 1 & 2
Round 3 will be an impromptu motion
Round 4 will have a separate motion that is listed below
Round 1 & 2 motion: This House would implement a living wage
Round 4 motion: This House would nationalize energy companies
