Judges may be entered on tabroom until Monday, April 7, at 6:00 PM.

JUDGES:

Judge Requirement (p. SPE 5 in the manual)

In CX, 1 judge for 2 cross-examination teams, 2 judges for 3 teams, 3 judges for 4 teams, 4 judges for 5 teams, 5 judges for 6 teams, 6 judges for 7 teams, and continue the same for all above 7 teams.

In LD & PF, 1 judge for every 2 public forum or Lincoln-Douglas entries or portion thereof.

In IEs, 1 judge for every 5 IE entries or portion thereof.

Coaches will be expected to judge. Required judges must be available 75% of all rounds. Required debate judges that do not pick up assigned ballots for the quarter-final, semi-finals and final rounds of the state tournament will be assessed a $100 fine per ballot missed.

Schools must provide judges one round past their school’s elimination, so you must supply judges for final rounds.

Balloting

Ballots will be online.

Judges should check in with the judges’ check-in/helpdesk in Royce Brown when they arrive on campus. Please hit start on the ballot when it appears on your dashboard.

Starbucks Open Thursday until 10 PM, Friday until 7 PM, and Sat 8 AM to 3 PM.

Parking

All SNU parking lots are open parking. Buses may drop students off east of the Royce Brown building on Peniel and then park in the lot at Donald and 41st. This lot is marked on the map on tabroom,

SCHEDULE

A schedule can be found at the bottom of this message as well as posted on tabroom. Please note: there is a 7:00 PM IE round on Friday. Also, Poetry has been split. 6A Poetry is Pattern A; 5A Poetry is Pattern B.

All debaters will do 4 preliminary rounds with one judge in each round. Quarters, Semis, and Finals will have 3 judges.

All IEs will do 3 preliminary rounds with 2 judges in each round. Finals will have 3 judges.

TAB ROOM

The tab room will be closed to those not involved in tabulation.

RESULTS

Ballots will be available to coaches after each round. Preliminary IE results will be released to coaches at “the show”, scheduled for 12:30 PM on Saturday. The finals tabulation will be available for 30 minutes after awards so coaches may check results. Mistakes cannot be corrected after 9:00 a.m. of the Tuesday following the tournament.

REMINDERS

  1. Judges are the official timekeeper(s) and should keep and record time for EVERY performance. Please do not ask contestants or audience members to keep time. (Judges in extemp: if you are keeping time, please make sure the students understand how you are keeping time and make sure you give clear signals).

  2. Informative and Oratory scripts must be submitted electronically here. Please use your school name as the first word in the title.

  3. For all other events, please be sure to bring your prepared copies of scripts (highlighted with original introductions, transitions, and conclusions typed). The script must be available if any protest is filed. Failure to have the script in the proper format may lead to disqualification.

  4. Please make sure your judges are familiar with the most current rules.

  5. All questions and protests should be directed to the tournament director.
