RJ Grey PF Debate Tournament

Public Forum Paradigm List
All Paradigms: Show HideDebated for Acton-Boxborough
I like simple rounds so don't try to overcomplicate things.
tech > truth
will vote on anything, but make sure its warranted
defense isn't sticky, extend it pls
I prefer collapsing in 2nd rebuttal
have fun, don't get so heated lol
Novices: extend, warrant, and weigh, make voting easy for me
if there is no path to the ballot for either side, I default to whoever lost the flip
I'll only look at ev if someone tells me to, otherwise idrc, the warranting is more important anyway
tell me a joke that makes me laugh before your round and ill give you plus 1 speaks. I give everyone 29s and 30s unless I deadass can't understand you.
Overall, keep it concise. Spit some bars and be confident and y'all will be chilling.

feel free to ask me any questions in round, have fun
General:
- I debated PF for 4 years at Acton-Boxborough. Tech > truth
- if you're speaking >= 250 words/min, send speech doc; run whatever arguments you want.
- I'll time speeches only and give a 10 second grace period - anything past that, I won't flow. You should time your own and your opponent's prep time to keep each other accountable.
- Any new offense should be answered in the next speech, otherwise it is considered dropped
- collapse to make the round easy and simple for all of us
- will disclose decision (and speaks, if you want)
FOR EMORY (LD):
FRAMEWORK PLEASE tell me which impact to prioritize AND WHY thats the case
I debated a couple military presence topics in PF (including one about West Asia), so I have some general understanding of the topic (but nothing super recent OR specific to North Africa).
If you really want to run progressive arguments, do so at your own risk. I debated a few theory rounds in PF, but I'm sure you know that LD and PF progressive arguments are very different (honestly really enjoyed debating theory so if you're willing to take the risk that would make it a fun round for me). Wouldn't recommend running any Ks/tricks (i will probably make the wrong decision).
Hi, my name is Sophie! I debated in LD at Acton-Boxborough for 4 years and am currently a freshman at Harvard.

For the novice tournament:
- Have fun - this is your first tournament so please remember that the main goal of this tournament is to learn as much as you can!
- Please make your speeches as organized as possible: go in a specific order and make it clear which arguments you are responding to
- When defending your own case, make sure to extend your arguments before answering responses by briefly explaining the argument.
Feel free to ask questions before the round starts!
For Big Lex:
Same rules apply above - but since this is a national circuit tournament, I am ok with you exploring more technical/progressive arguments. That being said, the primary purpose of the novice division is learning, so I'm not a fan of running progressive arguments that your opponent can't interact with at all. (E.g. - ask permission from your opponent before running a counterplan. If they don't know what a counterplan is, don't run a PIC!)
Feel free to ask what I'm ok with before round - the general idea is that I want both you and your opponent to learn from the round.
Senior at AB who debated PF back in the day.
Just follow the rules.
Preflow your cases before round so that we are not wasting too much time.
I wish I knew what the topic is, but I'm still relearning how to "Google" something after 1 year in hibernation; make the resolution clear in all of your speeches.
Cheesing in Final Focus is BAD; you will instantly lose by bringing up new args here. No new responses, args, interpretations, etc from 2nd Summary on.
Reasoning to an arg or response is a must (don’t just list responses out expecting me to evaluate them myself).
Let me be honest: I may go truth over tech if you don't give me the aforementioned reasoned args and responses, given that I ask for this reasoning so that you (not me) can control how their validity and topic relevance is verified.
Make sure to collapse at some point, but also give me narrative (show-not-tell you and your opponent's status-quo after the trajectory of the round) and weighing in Summary that is extended to Final Focus that I can evaluate in my RFD. Summary and FF are the only two speeches I will vote on as such.
Meme case is still a case: I will uncontrollably laugh at meme args, but will not fault you for running them. Just have fun when running them, and I'll evaluate them based on how quickly you start uncontrollably laughing while reading them (it won't take long). You'll get high speaks for stepping out of your comfort zone by making the absurd make some sense.
I do flow cross if there are major concessions. Chill here, since there is only so much you can accomplish in cross before losing sight of the args and focusing on assertion of dominance instead (not ok btw; instant 22 on speaks, or whatever is the lowest I can give you, because its that disrespectful to your opponents).
At the end of the day, be a good person, pace yourself in speeches, and you will get high speaks from me even if you don't win the round.
Quick note for in-person: I will call time, but keep track of yourselves and your opponents, mentioning the invalidity of overtime arguments in later speeches.
Quick note for online: I don’t do email chains. Just use the chat, or make a google doc if you really need to highlight a portion of the called card. I will time, but keep track of yourselves and opponents in case I fall behind due to other factors.
