I am a parent judge with 5+ years of PF/LD/ Policy experience. Please consider me a Flay Judge.
- Speak as fast as you would like, but I will ask you to slow down if I cannot understand. No spreading please. I am fine with 15 seconds of grace time.
- Please be respectful of your opponents and give them a chance to speak. Do not keep interrupting or be rude or condescending. If not, I will drop your speaker points.
- Please do not read any form of progressive argumentation (theory, kritiks, etc.) as I cannot evaluate them and will not give you credit for them.
- Off-time roadmaps and sign-posting are encouraged. It helps me follow your debate better.
- My decision will be based on your contentions, evidence, rebuttals, impacts, summaries and weighing. I will evaluate all those on both sides to come to a decision.
- I like to see well-researched cases backed by strong and credible evidence. Please include me in the email chain to share cards as I like to review them as well.
Good luck and have fun!

I have been judging LD debates for over four years, with occasional experience in Parli and PF formats. I prioritize clarity, substance, and respect in rounds. If any technical terms are used, please provide clear definitions. I value substantive contentions and points over intimidation or mockery. I flow during the round to track the arguments.
While I remain open-minded and impartial, I expect debaters to uphold the principles of sportsmanship and respect throughout the round. Mockery and intimidation have no place in constructive debate.
Impact calculus is highly appreciated as it helps in evaluating the significance of arguments.
Please include me (karthikakrishnna@gmail.com) in any email chains for reference. Best of luck to all debaters!"
If you need any further adjustments or clarifications, feel free to let me know!

I am a parent judge and have been judging since September 2019. I have primarily judged LD but in the last 2 years I have judged PF, Parli Policy and Congress too. I do flow and take copious notes. I am not comfortable with spreading, so please speak at moderate speed so that I can understand your arguments. Please make sure you are polite to your opponent. Please provide sufficient evidence to substantiate your contentions and be able to provide evidence when asked by your opponent. Do not introduce new evidence in your final speeches or lie that arguments were dropped when they weren't. It will definitely count against you as I do flow. Overall enjoy the debate and have fun!

Hello,
My name is Paul Choi, and I am a parent judge. I am an engineering manager in the tech industry.
I appreciate clearly laid-out arguments. Ideally, the contentions should flow together to create an overarching case for your argument. Each contention should be well-supported by evidence. There is no need to speak fast, or overwhelm the opponent or judges with the volume of evidence - oftentimes I find that the best debaters are able to clearly present their side of the argument with couple of well-chosen contentions and a few supporting evidences.
I have been in awe of many of the debates I've been privileged to witness so far. I am excited to hear more. Good luck and have a great round!

Hello debaters!
I'm a parent judge, and this is my first time judging; so please make sure to explain everything clearly and concisely. Here are some do's and don'ts for your debate:
DO:
- introduce yourself and which school you're from as well as which side you will be on
- signpost!
- explain any terms or acronyms you think I would not understand
DON'T:
- spread or speak extremely quickly
- interrupt your opponent(s)
I look forward to your debate!

I'm a parent judge, and my child is doing Lincoln Douglas debate since last year. I would love the participants to speak clearly and articulate their viewpoints well. I will pay close attention to CX and rebuttal. During CX, don't contend, demonstrate your side is better than the other. If needed, I can give 15-25 seconds grace period for rebuttal and summary.
Please be polite and respect each other. In the end, I would love to hear why your side has won.

I am an experienced parent judge (lay style, not circuit style).
I started judging in Jan 2022. Please minimize excessive spreading.
I like well-constructed, linear arguments that bear directly on the debate topic.
I do not generally comprehend "meta-rhetoric" (that is, arguments about the merits or validity of the debate question itself).
My email address for sending evidence and cases is joe_lee@yahoo.com

I appreciate contentions that are explained clearly and in an organized manner. Prefer fewer meaningful arguments over many less impactful ones. Take a few sentences to explain more important arguments, otherwise I might miss them. When referring back to cards made in earlier speeches, it's helpful to mention the essense of the studies rather than just the name of the author. Strongly prefer reasonable analysis over taking arguments to the extreme ending up in nuclear war.

I am a parent judge who has had experience for the past 3 years. Please don't spread.
Policy:
I would prefer it if you debate using stock issues (harms, solvency, DA, etc). Please make substantive arguments that can win you the debate.
LD:
I am looking for clarity of thought, structured and substantive arguments (where you keep track of and rebut your opponent's argument), and effective cross-examination.
Please explain why the reasons you have won at the end of the debate.
Good luck to all competitors.

Please deliver your arguments to me as you would to your younger sibling. This means speak slow and don't assume that I already know anything about what you're talking about. I am more interested in the quality of the arguments than in their quantity.
Please also listen carefully to your opponent and respond to their arguments or explain how their arguments are irrelevant. Merely repeating your position in response their arguments is not persuasive. I tend to be persuaded by the side that has done the best job of clearly identifying the disagreements between the two sides. Whoever can do that often has the stronger contentions anyway.

This is my first year judging debate tournaments. I will be judging using the lay framework.
- The stronger case is not the one with the more contentions, but the one where each contention has been thought through.
- Please refrain from speaking so fast that I can not follow along.
- Please refrain from Theory. I'd appreciate if we remain focussed on the contention.
- Please be polite towards your opponent during Cross-Ex. Let them finish their sentences instead of cutting them off.
- Please share in the filetab. If you are starting an email chain, you can also add "jayanto+debate@gmail.com"if you want to.

Objective and reasonable having moderate experience judging and being a parent for Saint Francis High School. I welcome fair, considerate, and rational arguments which are not needlessly biased, discriminatory, rascist, or sexist. It is crucial that debaters demonstrate polite and respectful behavior to all during the entire debate process.
Do not expect me to act as a gatekeeper during the debate process and debaters are reminded to be articulate, be mindful of process and time constraints, and speak at a reasonable flow rate. Policy and factual arguments are preferred - particularly when mixed appropriately with creativity to yield a point. Please be mindful that I have a wide breadth of background and knowledge but often minimal depth relative to specific positions.
Thank you and I look forward to consider your presentation and debate!

Please speak slowly and be respectful. Lesser well developed arguments are more important than too many arguments. Rebuttals should provide data-points to address the important issues advanced in constructive speeches. Each debater should mention their framework - value and criterion.

I am a lay judge. Adapt your argumentation as such. If you use any debate jargon, please clearly define it. I take notes while you debate, but please speak slowly and clearly (no spreading please!). I evaluate the debate based the quality of your arguments and responses, and in a case of a close debate, your speaking skills.

I am a parent judge with >7 years of judging experience in LD, PF, Parli and Policy debates as well as individual events. As a typical lay judge, my primary emphasis lies in evaluating the logical coherence of arguments, which should be well-supported by solid evidence. I flow and prefer clear speaking with no spreading. Additionally, I believe in the significance of maintaining respect towards opponents throughout the round.

From San Jose CA. My son is active in debate and I've judged speech and debate competitions for ~6 years.
Speed- I prefer elucidation and clarity to speed.
I like fewer more well developed points versus lots of varied but weaker arguments.
I dislike rude behavior, verbal or through gestures.

Parent Judge.
Rude or repugnant argumentation/behavior = the last rank.
Technology issues are not your fault. We'll work out whatever the issue is in the round.
Time yourself in all events even if I'm providing time signals.
JUDGING PHILOSOPHY: I am a noninterventionist; I will not reject or accept any substantive argument based on my own knowledge or values. In the absence of well supported voting criteria from either team, I will vote on the stock issues. I firmly believe in supporting assertions with evidence, even in parliamentary debate. Examples and hard data will go a long way toward persuading me.

I am a parent judge and so I am not professionally trained. However, I have been judging since last few years (mainly judging LD these days).
I care about technical aspects of debate and expect you to follow those (such as, if there are specific tournament policies/expectations then you must be aware of and follow those). Beyond that I am very open minded and look for your passion when you present your case and do rebuttal.
I like debater who understands that there is line between "being assertive" and "being aggressive". Show sportsmanship.
Your speed - I would prefer if you present your case with normal speed as that will help me understand it better but I am fine if you prefer to go fast. That would not go against you. I normally read your case.
I assess overall proceedings but rebuttal is very critical to me - try to respond to all the objections/questions of your opponents but more important is how and what you respond with - in terms of data points, justification, impact and, through that, how you strengthen your case/argument. During CX, I like to see how to find loopholes in opponents case/argument and how you build trap.
To me - it's not that big point if you come across dominating (through your speaking style/tone/body language or speed etc). That's an advantage but not everything. I give more weightage to things such as, how structured and logical you are in handling conflicts, building traps, etc and strengthening your case.
Please email me your case and the documents at raj_may6@yahoo.com
