• Speed: I'm comfortable with a fast pace as long as you're clear. Please signpost (moving to their case, on their first contention, etc.) and be organized in your speech
• Evidence: Send speech docs w/ cut cards for case and rebuttal
• Please collapse strategically on your own contentions as well as your responses to your opponent's case. The debate should ideally be narrowed down after each speech (quality > quantity!)
• Completely extend any piece of offense (UQ, links, impacts) & defense through summary AND final focus for it to be evaluated. No brand new arguments should be made in second summary or final focus.
• Make sure to frontline in second rebuttal/first summary
• Comparative weighing (link & impact) is super super important. Don't just restate your impacts, explain why they come first. I'll evaluate arguments with the strongest weighing first.
• Progressive arguments: I do have some experience debating theory (disclosure good & paraphrasing bad) and would try my best when judging these debates! Don't read any frivolous theory. I have very little experience w/ Ks so I wouldn't be the best judge for that.

Always be respectful to your opponents! And it should go without saying but don't read arguments that are racist, sexist, homophobic, etc, as those won't be evaluated.

I am a third year debater (2 semesters of Public Forum and current semester in policy) as well as fourth year speech (1 semester of impromptu, 3 semesters of DI, and 2 semesters of HI). I was nationally ranked in PF in middle school (MSTOC) as well as a TOC speech qualifier in 8th grade, and I debate with Quarry Lane/Christopher Thiele. My mom is a parent judge (Jingjing Pan).

Not much to say here - beyond general etiquette (which I WILL dock speaks if you are not being courteous and cannot read the room), just do the best you normally do, and I will judge based on your skill + clarity.

A few specifics:

- I'm tech > truth.

- For PF, please give me roadmap and overview/weighing as well as bring your point to me. If you have no idea what you're talking about/not educated about the topic, it's hard for me to see the "big picture" and even harder for me to give you the win in a round on a point or argument you won. I'm also not that familiar with the topic, which further means you should elaborate and be clear. Speaking fast is fine for me, spreading is NOT. Be sure you and your opponent reach consensus on speed, crossfire, email chains, etc.

- For Speech, be sure you are (or at least sound) excited about the point/story/idea you're delivering to me. A performance without soul would just be a lecture, which won't get you very far. Make your enunciation/movements clear if you choose to use gestures, and for blocking, I won't really consider it as a added bonus if you aren't making it REALLY clear what the action is (since I can have a hard time distinguishing). Remember to address your audience - a few interactions from time to time, if utilized right, can also be pleasant.

- For LD, Congress, Parli, etc. - Never done it before, but have a general sense of structure. Similar to everything I've said above, be clear and present your idea well, and the ballot will naturally fall.

Speak clearly. Any speed is fine as long as you slow down and read your tag lines and main points very clearly. Spreading is fine. Give clear indication of when you have reached the burden you set out.

LD: I am a true values debate judge in LD. Tabula rasa judge. Flexible to any kinds of cases and arguments as long as they are respectful. If your case is not topical or abusive and your opponent argues and proves that in their speeches then I am willing to vote based on topicality, education and abuse.

PF and CX: Be respectful and cordial to your opponent. I’m open to most anything in Policy rounds. Always stay on the debate topic, don’t wander off onto an irrelevant subject because it’s more enjoyable to argue about than the topic is. Always allow your opponent the opportunity to complete their sentence before continuing to cross.
I’m a Tabula rasa Judge especially in Policy debate. If you don’t tell me how you want me to weigh the round and set a minimum burden for each side to have to meet within the round to win then I will default to judging based on the block and will turn into a games playing judge and will make voting decisions based on what my flow shows and dropped arguments or arguments that were lost or conceded will very much factor into my vote. Impacts, Warrants and links need to be made very clear, and always show me the magnitude.

30 Speaks if you run a crazy contention

I have competed in PF for about 1.5 years and I've been to TOC Sophomore year.

I really respect the "public" aspect of debate. Though I am a flow judge, I do enjoy more thorough and comprehensive debates over jaw spasming to speak at 200 words per second. To put it simply: debate like you would for a flow judge, I'm not fine with spreading, I'm fine with theory, I will vote off the flow only, but do not go 200 wps.

I really, really do appreciate non-stock contentions. I will boost speaker points if you run a true non-stock contention.

Have fun debating. If you're a novice, take it light. Ease into the game, stick to the flow. No one cares what tournaments you win as novice, they care about what tournaments you win as Varsity. Play in the novice division not to win, but to learn. Also, if you are spreading in any novice division, I WILL DROP YOU. if you run theory in any novice division, that's kind of funny.

Never hesitate to ask questions after round. It is your job to ask questions and my job as a judge to help you to be a better debater in later divisions. Please do not include me in the email chain. I will only check evidence if a side asks me specifically to read it.

Last thing: Please dress formal, you won't show up to a basketball game wearing sweatpants and no shirt. Similarly, don't show up to the debate without looking presentable.

• I'll listen to cross; I don't understand why most tech judges don't; it's part of the activity for a reason. With that being said, I'll listen, but only vote off of what is said if you implicate it in a speech.
• defenseis sticky
• offense is not sticky
• extensions should have at minimum uniqueness, link and impacts; internal link extensions are nice too
• all args that you want me to vote on must be extended properly
• I won't evaluate args that are not extended through every speech (except first rebuttal)
• no new offense past rebuttals
• don't be abusive with new responses
• I understand the desire to do a bunch of prep and be a doc bot, but please interact with your opps case on a ev/warrant basis. It makes the debates more fun, makes weighing easier, and makes it so that I don't have to intervene.

weighing:

• Please don't say "we outweigh on magnitude, scope, probability." you need a comparative warrant for each mechanism.

• Weighing should start latest in summary; first rebuttal should be weighing.
• There should be no new weighing in final focus.
• Do not use probability weighing as a trojan horse to sneak in a new response.
• Prereqs/link-ins are a great way to make a debate fun.

Progressive arguments:

Run at your own risk! I'll vote off of theory/T, and I can understand some k's, but if yours is convoluted and/or spread I cannot guarantee I will. If you have a well constructed (and well-meaning) k or theory shell read it :)

Public Forum specifics:

• First speakers should ideally start weighing out of first rebuttal. Second speakers should weigh in second rebuttal (even if minimally).
• Please collapse on 1-2 args in summary. I have a high threshold for blippy arguments.
• Do not read the claim of a turn in rebuttal and expect to attach a warrant later on. I will only evaluate turns that are warranted, implicated and weighed out of rebuttal.
• You must go for the same arguments in summary/final focus.

LD specifics:

• Do not LD spread. I will not be able to understand what you are saying.
• Please talk slowly and clearly. Quality of arguments matters more than the quantity.
• I understand minimal circuit ld concepts. Be aware that reading a type of argument that is present in LD and PF may not translate to me.
