Focus:
- Strategic Use of Space: I value clear organization and efficient use of time. Strong debaters will establish distinct lines of argumentation and allocate time proportionally to their importance. Effective rebuttal strategies will target key weak points in the opposing case and offer concise responses.
- Solid Logical Foundations: Compelling arguments are built on robust reasoning and evidence. I appreciate clear definitions, sound inferences, and well-constructed syllogisms. Arguments should anticipate and address counterarguments directly.
- Effective Use of Emotional Argument: While logic forms the core, emotions can be powerful tools to engage the audience. However, such appeals should be grounded in logic and not solely manipulative. Effective emotional arguments evoke genuine connection and strengthen the overall persuasiveness of the case.
Evaluation:
- Content: 50% - Strength of arguments, quality of evidence, and logical analysis.
- Delivery: 30% - Clarity, organization, time management, and effective use of space.
- Persuasiveness: 20% - Ability to connect with the audience, both logically and emotionally.
Additional Notes:
- I encourage respectful and civil debate conduct. Personal attacks and disruptive behavior will negatively impact your evaluation.
- I am open to learning from the debaters. Feel free to briefly explain complex arguments or unfamiliar terminology during your presentations (if time). Feel free to prep me (the judge) so I can best understand your work.
- I welcome creative approaches to presenting your case, but remember, clarity and effectiveness should remain paramount.
