Hey, this is geared toward judging and not for debate rounds!
My name is Taygen and I have been doing debate for Prospect Hill Academy for just about 4 years but I have been the most active in the past two years. This past year I studied law and economics at Yale University while working in the Massachusetts Senate. If any of those things interest you please contact me after the round or through email.
Please use they/them pronouns, I will know when you're doing it on purpose and a 25 doesn't look cute on ballots :)
Things I love to see during the round
Clash: There is no debate if you aren't clashing. No matter if you are the negative or the affirmative. This makes it easier for me to look at the round and puts more weight into my vote
Flowing: My biggest pet peeve is when there is no flow. It helps you more than anyone in the round. You cant clash if you are not flowing and in turn your rebuttal is harder to run
Mannerism: Being mean ≠ being firm. There is no need to be mean to your appointment because that is not how you get more speaking points. I base speaker points in your rhetoric and how you are speaking about your arguments. I care more about the fact that you respect not only your teammates but your opponents as well.
Cross-X: I do not follow cross-examination so if something is very important you need to bring it up in your next speech. Debate is about having fun, when you focus too much on winning you are killing the experience for yourself.
some fun ~ if you say "I have a riddle" before making your claim then I will give the speaker points
if you ever need anything outside the round here is my email: taygenbdl@gmail.com
