Event Description:
This event was the creation of Coach Danny Ray, and in his honor, we reprise it from time to time. It is particularly well-suited for your strongest interpers. Competitors start in a prep room just like an Extemporaneous Speaking competitor does. At seven-minute intervals, they are given a script (Rounds 1, 2, and 3) or materials from which they can create an interpretation program (Elim Round(s)) and have 30 minutes to prepare to compete with the material(s) provided. Materials provided should be suitable for performance by anyone, regardless of race, gender, etc. and might be prose, poetry, a cutting from a play or monologue, etc! Students should cut the material(s) and incorporate an introduction, all of which should be performed and delivered within 7 minutes with a 30 second grace period. The materials provided will be in a format in which they can easily be placed in an interp book’s slick sheets (which competitors should bring).
