Spontaneous Argument
Event Description:
Spontaneous Argumentation (SPAR)
Students will draw three "spontaneous argument topic". One student will select which of the three topics to debate and the other student will select the side. Students are to be given 1 minute of prep time to prepare their side upon the selection of their topic. This is the only prep time that will be allowed during the debate. Rather than choosing a winner and loser in the debate the judge will rank all competitors against each other at the end of the round (1 being best). If there is an uneven amount of students in your section one student will debate twice, however you will only score their first debate. The format is as follows
1st Affirmative Constructive: 2 minute
1st Negative Constructive: 2 minute
Cross fire (both students ask and answer questions): 1 minute
1st Aff Rebuttal: 1 minute
1st Neg Rebuttal: 1 minute
Aff Final speech: 30 seconds
Neg final speech: 30 seconds
1 minute prep time per speaker
