Extemporaneous Debate

Event Description:

Resolution

• Tournament officials will post the resolution to be debated for each round 30 minutes prior to the start of the round.

Sides

• Contestants will be assigned sides by the Tab Room.

Evidence

• Students may conduct research prior to the debate and use authoritative references in their speeches but are not required to do so.

• They may use the internet to conduct research between the posting of the topic and the start of the debate. Materials created during the preparation time, including research, pre-written blocks, and flows, may be used.

• Contestants should directly clash with their opposition in rebuttal speeches and maintain clear organizational schemes throughout the debate.
