Length
-
The time limit is ten minutes with a 30-second grace period. If an entry exceeds the grace period, they cannot be ranked 1st. There are no other prescribed penalties for going over the grace period.

The decision on rankings is at the judges' discretion. Judges must use accurate timing devices.

Material

No plays or other dramatic materials may be used.

A single published, printed story, anecdote, tale, myth, or legend must be retold without notes or props. Any theme/topic area may be used.

Gestures, pantomime and characterization, may be used with restraint but the focus must be on the narrative.

The retelling must be true to the original tale. The contestant may not add original material or materially change the content of the story.

Performance

The performance must be from memory.

If a chair is used, contestants may choose the original position of the chair

Use of the chair is not considered a prop as long as

Once the performance begins, all legs of the chair remain stationary on the ground and do not move from their original position

Contestants do not kneel or stand on the chair

The use of any other aids or props are prohibited.

Artistic Plagiarism

Direct imitation of previous performances or video media is prohibited. Artistic plagiarism penalties can range from lowering the ranking to disqualification. Proof of plagiarism must include video evidence and written verification.
