Children's Literature
Event Description:
The performed piece must be a single piece of children's literature. The selection may be prose or poetry. Performances must include an introduction written by the student stating the title and author of the selection. The student may not tell a story that he or she used in a previous academic year. Gestures, pantomime, and characterization may be used; but the focus should on the narrative. The contestant may not make material changes to the content of source material. The student will use a manuscript, as would be the case in Oral Interpretation. The manuscript may be used as prop but must stay in the student's control at all times. During the interpretation, the student may use their whole body, including the feet; however, they should not walk around. Time Limit: 10 minutes with a 30 second grace period. Presentations that exceed the grace period may not receive first place in the round. Any other penalty is at the judge’s discretion. The student may not tell a story that he or she used in a previous academic year or is currently using in another event in which they are double entered.
