All tournament rounds (speech and debate) will be held at the high school. Registration is being taken on-line only at tabroom. Registration is now open (no double entries) and will close at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 17.  There will be no adds after that time.

            We will have three preliminary rounds in speech competitions and break to final rounds.  In addition, there will be at least four rounds in debate. Congress also will be offered.  Please read the following information carefully:

PHSSL rules and time limits will be used in all speech and debate events.  No double entries, please.

 

Registration Fees:

The registration fee will be five dollars ($5) per speech and L-D contestants, and ten dollars ($10) per two-person debate team and duo team.  Checks are to be made payable to Pine-Richland Activities Fund. PLEASE NOTE THIS.

 

Judges:

One qualified judge must be provided for every five students entered in the speech events or a fraction thereof.

1 to 5 students=1 judge

6 to 10 students=2 judges

One qualified judge must be supplied and specified for every one to two L-D competitors and every one to two Public Forum teams, and one qualified judged must be supplied for every one to five Congress competitors. High school students may not be used as judges.  All judges are expected to stay for the entire tournament. If any judge leaves the tournament early, without providing a replacement, his/her school will be disqualified from competition.

 

 

Awards:

Top speakers in all speech and debate events will receive awards.  Speech, Debate, and Overall sweepstakes awards will be presented.

 

Sweeps:

Results will be tabulated through a preset tabroom program.

 

Lunch:

Lunch tickets will be sold for $5 prior to Round I.  We ask that you do not leave the campus for lunch. Snacks will be available all day. Coffee, doughnuts, and juice will also be sold before Round I. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

Time Schedule:

We are going to try our best to run our tournament on time. To help us, please make sure that you are on time. Call (724) 816-9613 for drops or if you are running late.

 

Registration: 7:00-7:45

Speech Schedule:

Extemp and Impromptu to prep rooms: 8:00

Assembly in high school Atrium (cafeteria): 8:20

Round I: Speech: 8:45-9:45

Round II: Speech: 9:45-10:45

Round III: Speech: 10:45-11:45

Lunch: 11:30-1

Final Round Postings: 1:15 (or earlier if possible)

Final Round: 1:30 (or earlier if possible)

Assembly in Auditorium: 3:30 (or earlier if possible)

 

DEBATE ROUNDS will begin at 8:30 (Round 1) and 9:30 (Round 2).  Debaters and Congress participants will eat lunch around 11:15.  Debate Round 3 will begin at noon, final rounds at 1-1:30.

 

Emergencies:

Should there be any emergency on the day of the tournament, please call (724) 816-9613 so that we may adjust the schedule accordingly. 

 

On-line Registration Deadlines:

The registration deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 18. We cannot guarantee space for all events so register as early as possible.  NO ADDS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE.

PLEASE MEET JUDGING REQUIREMENTS AND HAVE JUDGES (AND STUDENTS) PREPARED WITH THEIR TABROOM ACCOUNTS

 

WE WILL BE HAPPY TO ACCEPT SUGGESTIONS FOR PARLIAMENTARIANS

 

SNACKS AND DRINKS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, AND LUNCH TICKETS WILL BE SOLD UNTIL 8:30 A.M.

 

REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE JUDGES’ ROOM.

 

No double entries.

 

Report all irregularities to tab room.

 

DO NOT smoke on school grounds.

 

DO NOT open emergency exits.

 

Turn off all cell phones and beepers during rounds.

 

Walk quietly in the hallways so as not to disturb competitors.

 

ALL judges MUST complete their rankings as soon as possible.  Comments can be typed in later (up to 24 hours) if necessary.

 

Keep all food and drink in the cafeteria and please clear tables after lunch.

 

A computer room will be available for judges looking to complete their ballots if needed.
