2020 Virtual Holiday Classic Invite

Friday, December 18 - Saturday, December 19, 2020

The Cheyenne East High School Speech and Debate Team invites you to the first ever Virtual Holiday Classic on December 18-19, 2020. Schools wishing to attend will be entered on a first-come, first-served basis. We will prioritize entries from Wyoming. Schools will be allowed to enter 4 entries per event in both Novice and Varsity. We will accept waitlist entries as we have space and judges.

Registration website: http://holidayclassic.tabroom.com

Events:

We will use NSDA Campus. We will offering the following events in Novice and Varsity:

Pattern D: Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, Drama, Duo, POI

Pattern H: Humor, Oratory, Poetry, Extemp, Info, Congress

There will be four rounds, semifinals, and finals. If we can accommodate enough entries, we will have a quarterfinals round in place of a fourth round in events. All events will be synchronous EXCEPT for Duo. Duo will be asynchronous and links are due the day before the tournament by 5pm (Thursday, December 17). Help with recording duo can be found here.

Debaters are not allowed to double in Pattern D. All other competitors can double in either pattern, but do so at their own risk.

Debate:

LD (N/V): The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.

PF (N/V): The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use.

CX (N/V): The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

We ask competitors to follow the internet usage rules as defined by NSDA.

Speech:

Competitors in Poetry and POI must use manuscripts and they may be used as a prop. Novices may use manuscripts in all events.

Competitors in informative may use visual aids in accordance with NSDA rules.

In Extemp, questions may be taken from NFHS, NSDA, and other sources. Competitors must have their cameras activated (but volume muted) during their prep time.

Congress:

Legislation will be chosen from the Wyoming State database corresponding to competitors who are entered on Tabroom.com by Friday, December 4, 2020. Competitors outside of Wyoming wishing to have legislation considered must submit bills to Allen Pino (pino.allen@gmail.com) by this same date. We will release the docket on Monday, December 7, 2020. Super Congress legislation will be taken from various sources, and will be released along with the regular docket.

Judging:

Teams attending are required to provide 1 judge (or 6 rounds of judging) per every 8 entries. Teams must enter judges on Tabroom. Failing to do so may result in the loss of entries. If providing enough accompanying judges is an issue, please contact the tournament director, Marcus Viney, 970-310-0011. We strongly encourage Varsity members competing in one pattern only to enter as judges for novice rounds. All judges must have linked Tabroom accounts in order to judge.

We will recruit as many judges as possible in an attempt to avoid using coaches. Please help us by forwarding this Google Form to friends, family, and beyond:
