Victoria East High Speech and Debate Tournament

November 13, 2021

 

  

The Victoria East Speech and Debate is pleased to announce our annual TFA State Qualifying Tournament to be held November 13, 2021. 

  

This year’s tournament will be hosted in person at Victoria East High School.

We will be offering all TFA events except World Schools Debate. We are pleased to offer novice divisions of Extemp, Poetry, and Prose. If a novice division does not make, it will be collapsed into its varsity counterpart. A novice is defined as a student in their first year of High school competition. 

TFA rules and time limits will be used for all events. 

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT BY REGISTERING FOR THIS TOURNAMENT YOU AND YOUR SCHOOL ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS FOR THIS IN PERSON TOURNAMENT. FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE TOURNAMENT!

 

1. Masks – Competitors and sponsors are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to wear masks when not competing.

 

2. Social Distancing – Every effort will be made to provide adequate social distancing for schools.

 

3. Schools should not bring students that are COVID positive or who have exhibited COVID symptoms within 7 days of the tournament.

 

 

5.Meals – We will be having some form of concession for students. A hospitality room will be provided for coaches and judges only. We will do our best to ensure that this is a pre-packaged meal option as well. 

 

6. There should be a school-approved chaperone with students at all times.

 

7. Cross-entries – Students in IEs may cross enter at their own risk. Students participating in CX may Only cross enter in Category A.

 

Entries must be made by Monday, November 8, 2021 4:00 pm.  Drops and adds will be taken until Wednesday, November 10, 2021 4 pm.  Entry fees will be assessed at that time.  Penalty for drops after that date and time will result in the loss of the entry fees.  CX teams and LD debaters dropped at registration will be charged an additional $50.00 drop fee.  CX teams and LD debaters that no show their prelim rounds will be charged an additional $50.00 dollars. 

Cross Entering is at your own risk.

All necessary information is enclosed. Please read all rules and instructions carefully to avoid any misunderstanding, and realize contestants cross enter at their own risk. There must be one judge on campus. Debate entries will not be accepted if you do not provide a debate judge or pay judging fees.  

We will only be accepting entries and changes online, unless it is an immediate emergency. In this case please contact Bryan Winn. 

We will not break brackets in debate.

Judges

All schools will be responsible for providing judges for the events their team enters.  Missing judges will result in additional judging fees for your school/entry.  

Congress

Student PO’s will be used in prelims & finals, but that individual cannot be cross entered in another event.
