James Bowie High School and Lampasas High School TFA IQT and NIETOC Qualifying Tournaments

November 11-12, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

The James Bowie High School and Lampasas High School Forensics Teams would like to invite you to our TFA Individual State Qualifying and NIETOC IN-PERSON SWING Tournament on November 11-12, 2022. We look forward to having you join us on the Bowie High School campus as we look forward to providing an educational, competitive atmosphere for you and your students. NOTE: No part of the tournament will be held at Lampasas HS. Please only go to Bowie HS on Friday and Saturday.

BOTH tournaments are TFA qualifiers this year. The Bowie side of the swing is a NIETOC qualifier.

We are offering the following TFA Qualifying Events:

Dramatic Interpretation Humorous Interpretation Policy Debate

Duet Acting Duo Interpretation Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Original Oratory Congressional Debate Public-Forum Debate

Program Oral Interpretation Informative Speaking World Schools Debate

Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking

Additionally, we will offer Prose, Poetry, Novice Prose, Novice Poetry and Novice Extemporaneous Speaking.

Novice Extemporaneous Speaking Prelims Topic will be: Middle East

Novice Elimination Rounds Topics will cover: all US topics and Europe topics

Congress: We will use the TFA 2022 Fall Legislation docket, which can be found on the Texas Forensic Association's Website - www.txfa.org.

Bowie Prelims will use 1, 21 ,27, 28, 24 from the TFA Docket and Finals will use 10, 11, 20, 29, 30 from the TFA Docket.

Lampasas Prelims will use 16, 17, 21, 27, 28 from the TFA Docket and Finals will use 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 from the TFA Docket.

LD debate will use the 2022 November-December NSDA LD debate topic: Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.

CX debate will use the 2022-2023 NSDA CX debate topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.

PF debate will use the 2022 November-December NSDA PF debate topic: Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms.

World Schools Debate - On the Lampasas (LHS) side of the swing, round 1 will use the prepared motion #7 (This House believes that the environmental rights of future generations supersede the economic interests of current generations.) from the list of August-November motions on the TFA website. Round 3 will use the prepared motion #10 (This House believes that the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue should initiate the creation of a regional defense pact (similar to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in the Asia Pacific region.) Finals will use the prepared motion #4 (This House supports the right of teachers to unionize.) Round 2 and semifinals will be impromptu.

World Schools Debate - On the Bowie (JBHS) side of the swing, round 1 will be an impromptu round. Round 2 will use the prepared motion #5 (This House supports a cashless economy.) from the list of August-November motions on the TFA website. Round 3 will use the prepared motion #9 (This House would implement fairness doctrines on broadcast news media with significant audience reach.) Finals will use the prepared motion #2 (This House opposes the use of NFT technology for investment purposes.) Round 1 and semifinals will be impromptu.

We will not be breaking brackets in Debate.

Please note that if an event does not reach TFA qualification numbers, we may choose not to hold that event on the day(s) of the tournament.
