Dear Coach:

Join for the one-day, online Los Angeles International (LAX) Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, November 19, 2022 hosted by the Speech and Debate Team at Beverly Hills High School for both Middle School and High School students.

Why just one day? Teenagers exhausted by the lockdown do not need now to be exhausted by three-day in-person marathon tournaments. A one-day tournament is fun but not exhausting.

Why Online? Many kids still like online competition, with evidence of that being the continued success of the NSDA Springboard Scrimmage online series of weekday afters chool rounds.

Cost: No school fee, it is just $20 per entry in all Speech or Debate events. Students can enter two Events but not in the Debate pattern.

All rounds will be on Zoom platform. Registration via the Tabroom.com website. Everyone needs a Tabroom.com account to compete or judge.

There will be Open and Novice divisions in both Middle School and High School Divisions of Events and Debate We may combine divisions if entries merit but awards will be separate.

Novice is defined as a student in their first year of competition.

Debate formats include Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum and Parliamentary. September/October topics will be used.  We will also offer a Big Questions division for High School competitors.  

Events offered include persuasive, impromptu, dramatic, humorous, thematic, expository, extemporaneous, duo interpretation and original prose/poetry.

7:30 - 8 am: School and Team Registration Check-In Online and Judge Training

8:00 -9:00 am: Round 1 Debate

9:00 - 10:00 am: Round 1 Events

10:00 - 11:00 am: Round 2 Debate

11:00 - 12:00 pm: Round 2 Events

12:00 -1:00 pm: Round 3 Debate

1:00 – 2:00 pm: Round 3 Events

2:00 – 3:00 pm Round 4 Debate

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Finals Events

4:00 – 5:30 pm: Debate Elim 1

5:30-6:00 pm Awards

6:00-7:00 pm Debate Elim 2

7:15-8:30 pm Debate Elim 3

All competitors must submit signed permission forms by the tournament to compete.

School-based teams only. Sorry, we do not accept independent individuals or clubs to compete.
