Pro Con Debate Challenge Warm-Up

Coaches!

As we are offering Pro Con Debate Challenge as a part of the Varsity State Debate Championships in Illinois this season, we are offering a chance for some preliminary competition and feedback! Here are the details:

Entries and Videos are due to Tabroom.com by 9AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

There are NO entry fees (for this warm-up that is, there will be entry fees associated with the Varsity State Debate Tournament)!

Each school is asked to provide one judge. That judge should plan to watch rounds sometime on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 - Thursday, January 25, 2024. We will break to an appropriate number of elimination rounds and provide at least 24 hours for judges to judge those rounds. Judges will need to be available for all rounds!

Printable Certificates will be emailed to the coaches of top placing students.

The topics that can be used are as follows:

  • LD Potential Topics:

    • Resolved: The primary objective of the United States criminal justice system ought to be rehabilitation.

    • Resolved: An inquisitorial justice system is preferable to an adversarial justice system.

    • Resolved: In the United States, the use of eminent domain to promote private enterprise is unjust.

  • Policy Debate Topic:

    • Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income.

  • Public Forum:

    • Resolved: In the United States, collegiate student-athletes should be classified as employees of their educational institution.

    • Resolved: The United States federal government should restore the banking regulations of the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010.
