Welcome to the Murray Middle and High School Mark Etherton Invitational! Our competition will
be held Saturday, January 27th on the campus of Murray State University. Entry fees for the
competition will be $10 each ($20 for Duo and Improv Duo entries). Students will be allowed to
enter into a maximum of three events. SCHOOLS MUST SUPPLY THE APPROPRIATE
NUMBER OF JUDGES AND THOSE JUDGES MUST MEET THEIR OBLIGATIONS.

Events
The JUNIOR tournament will host the following twelve Kentucky High School Speech
League (KHSSL) events for JUNIOR competition: Broadcasting, Declamation, Dramatic
Interp, Duo Acting, Extemp, Humorous Interp, Impromptu, Improv Duo, Oratory, Poetry,
Prose, and Storytelling. The SENIOR tournament will host the following twelve Kentucky
High School Speech League (KHSSL) events for SENIOR competition: Broadcasting,
Declamation, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Extemp, Humorous Interp, Impromptu,
Improv Duo, Informative, Oratory, Poetry, Program Oral Interp, Prose, and Storytelling.

All judges should be familiar with KHSSL rules and ballots ALL JUDGES MUST HAVE A
TABROOM.COM ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON YOUR JUDGING ROSTER. All
judges will be considered for all events and should be prepared for competition
accordingly.

Teams are required to provide 1 judge for every 6 entries into the competition. 6 entries
= one judge, 7 entries = 2 judges, etc. Remember that Duo Acting, Duo Interpretation,
and Improvisational Duo count as 1 entry here.

We want your judges! In the event you cannot provide the required number of judges,
you may hire judges for $50 each. Please email me at
michael.robinson@murray.kyschools.us if you have judges with special concerns. This
will help with overall flow of the tournament.

JUDGES DROP FEES
Any judging drops occurring prior to will be charged $50 for each round missed. Judging
substitutions are free.

There are three hotel options in Murray to choose from when making your travel
arrangements. We have reserved blocks of rooms at each of these locations – just ask for
the MURRAY HIGH SPEECH TEAM BLOCK and they should be able to accommodate you.

NIETOC QUALIFICATION
Our SENIOR HIGH tournament is a qualifying tournament for the National Individual
Events Tournament of Champions this year. For additional information on the NIETOC
and their qualification process, you can visit their website at www.nietoc.com.
