Whitehouse High School would like to cordially invite you to our 18th Annual Wildcat Thanksgiving Classic. This UIL speech and academic meet will be held Saturday, November 9, 2023.

EVENTS: All UIL events plus Student Congress. All academic tests are from 3rd party vendors.

REGISTRATION: Please register at www.tabroom.com for all speech, debate, and academic events.

DEADLINES: All entries are due online by Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 5:00 PM. You may change names after this date, BUT drops made after Thursday, November 7, 2023 at 4:00 PM will result in the loss of your entry fee.

JUDGING: You must supply a judge/grader for every event in which your school is entered. If you do not provide a grader/judge your students will not be graded. For debate, you must have 1 judge for every 4 LD contestants or 2 CX teams, or part thereof. For Prose/Poetry, Speech, and Writing Events, you must provide 1 judge for every 6 participants or part thereof. Judging fees are $150/judge for debate and speaking events if you do not provide a judge, however, we prefer judges over fees. AT MINIMUM, speech/debate team coaches MUST serve as judges. For writing events, if you have no judge your student may compete, but they will not be graded. Please contact us ahead of time if this is a problem.

ENTRY FEES: CX Entries: $40/team

LD Entries: $20

Speech Events (except Duo): $10

All Other Events: $10

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded for the top 6 places in each event. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top-performing schools based on the UIL point system for both big and small school events, but only UIL events count towards sweepstakes. In Science, awards will be given for the top scores in each grade, top scores in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and overall 1st-6th place. In all Math events, awards will be given for the top score in each grade and the overall 1st-6th places. We will also present awards in big and small school categories for all events except speech.

OTHER INFORMATION:

EXTEMP: All current UIL rules related to the disabling of Wi-Fi or other internet access must be followed.

UIL CX: Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of domestic intellectual property rights in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks.

UIL LD: Resolved: In the United States, agroecology ought to be prioritized over industrial agriculture.

Poetry & Prose: Selections will be the reader's choice.

Computer Applications: Limit 3 participants per school. Schools must provide their own computers and printers. Entries are limited to 25 due to lack of space.

Ready Writing/Journalism: We will take the first 40 entries due to lack of space. You must provide a grader for your students. Your students will not be graded if you do not provide a judge. Computers will be provided, however, students may use laptops in both writing competitions. Schools must provide their own power cords and printers if they use their own computers.

Science: We will follow the UIL Calculator rules for the science test. The only allowed calculators are the:

HOSPITALITY ROOM: A coaches and judges hospitality room will be provided. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served. A concession stand will be available in the cafeteria for students.
