Cypress Tradition

Dear Competitors, Coaches, and Judges,

The Cypress Debayte Team cordially invites you to attend the Tradition, held in person at Cypress Bay High School campus in Weston, FL on December 7th-8th, 2024. We are proud to offer the following formats of debate: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum, Congress, and if entries allow, World Schools Debate. We will be offering the following Individual Events in two patterns: Extemp (A), Dramatic Interpretation (A), Original Oratory (A), Extemp Debate (A). Humorous Interpretation (B), Duo Interpretation (B), Informative Speaking (B), Programmed Oral Interpretation (B), Impromptu Speaking (B). Please note: we reserve the right to collapse or cancel undersubscribed events, but we will inform teams as soon as a decision is made and give the opportunity to switch events in that case .As in years past, we are privileged to offer bids to the Tournament of Champions in the following categories:

Gold PF - Quarters

Silver PF - Octos

LD: Finalist

Congress: Top 16

IE (Extemp, OO, Info, HI, DI, Duo, POI) - If 24 or fewer entries, Top 3; if 25 to 72 entries, Top 7; if 73 to 125 entries, Top 14; if 125 or more Top 24.

*We are only offering Open for High School competitors, but new this year is a full Middle School division. Middle School students may enter Open if they wish*

Topics:

We will be using the November/December topic for PF/LD

WSD: There will be 2 prep-prepared rounds in prelims. All other rounds will be impromptu motions.

Prepared motions: This House would substantially decrease the use of pretrial detention

This House believes that the US should immediately institute amnesty for all undocumented persons in the United States.

Extemp and Impromptu topic areas will be posted in the coming weeks

The schedule will also be posted shortly, please note this year we are SATURDAY and SUNDAY, once again on the first week of December.

We invite all UDL schools to enter as many entries as they would like free of charge. We still need to honor judge commitments.
