The 78th Chaminade Invitational
2025 — Mineola, NY/US
December 2024
Dear Coaches,
The 78th Annual Chaminade Speech Invitational will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The tournament will take place on Chaminade High School’s main campus, 340 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501.
EVENTS: Declamation, Dramatic Performance, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking (offered on separate Varsity and JV levels), Original Oratory, Program Oral Interpretation, Oral Interpretation of Literature (also offered on separate Varsity and JV levels) and Student Congress.
ENTRANTS:Due to limited space accommodations, registration CAPS have been placed on all events. Waitlist will be reviewed and cleared as space is evaluated.Because the Chaminade Tournament has a long history of support, we will give preference to schools that have been to the tournament in the past, schools in New York State, and schools that have hosted Chaminade at their tournaments. After that, other schools will be admitted. Event caps will be placed on all teams/events to regulate the number of entries. Only entries affiliated with an official school team will be admitted to the tournament.
JUDGES: Each school must provide one judge for every FIVE speakers or fraction thereof. For the purpose of determining judges, a Duo team counts as ONE speaker. If schools compete in Student Congress, they must supply one judge regardless of the number of students they bring. We cannot guarantee fulfillment of any hired requests. Schools should anticipate covering all their entries with their own judges.
FEES: The registration fee is $15.00 per speaker. For determining fees, a duo team counts as TWO speakers making the fee for a DUO team $30.00. Make all checks payable to CHAMINADE HIGH SCHOOL. Please mail the check to: Mrs. Tina Smith, Chaminade High School, 340 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501. You may also pay at the time of registration. All fees must be paid before the start of the tournament, or entries may be dropped from the tournament.
AWARDS: Individual and sweepstakes awards will be presented. New York State half-qualifications will be awarded according to NYSFL regulations.
LUNCH: Coaches and judges will be guests of Chaminade. Students will be able to bring their own lunch or purchase lunch in the cafeteria. CASH ONLY. No credit cards will be accepted. For security and tournament efficiency,Absolutely NO Food Order Services will be allowed to deliver to the campus during the day. Food may only be consumed in the Cafeteria Space.
ROUNDS: We will run three prelim rounds and a final round. There will be two rounds of Student Congress, followed by a supersession. Please be sure that your judges know how to judge using Tabroom and have the correct technology to run rounds efficiently and smoothly. Wi-Fi will be available. Extemp Prep will begin at 9am sharp. Round 1 start will be as close to 9:30 am as possible. Make sure all your participants and judges are present at the time of registration.
CONGRESS BILLS: All Congress bills should be sent to tsmith@chaminade-hs.org, by 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5th, 2025. Schools may submit two (2) bills. If you submit two bills, please label one bill for prelims and one for finals. All legislation must be in appropriate format. We will publish the docket on Tabroom by Monday night, January 6, 2025.
PRE-REGISTRATION: You should register online at http://www.tabroom.com. Registration opens on December 9, 2024.
Registration closes and fees are frozen at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. You will not be permitted to add speakers after that time. You must also provide the same number of judges that you indicated on your initial registration; failure to do so could result in a $150.00 fine per judge, which may result in participants being dropped from your registration.
Please be advised that it MAY be necessary to restrict registration numbers depending on the size of the tournament and the number of available competition spaces, so please register your students in priority order in each event. We will inform you ASAP after the close of registration on January 7th if it will be necessary to reduce your registration numbers and judging obligations.
School Check-In will be in the Main Entrance Lobby from 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. All teams must arrive on time.
