Athens UIL Invitational

The Athens High School UIL Academic Team would like to invite you back to our full UIL academic tournament Saturday October 18. We hope you’ll join us.

The details for the tournament:

Deadlines: The deadline to enter is Tuesday October 14 at 5:00 PM.. Drops for speech & debate events made after Wednesday, October 15th at 5:00 pm will result in the loss of your entry fee. Drops made the day of the tournament will result in a $100.00 drop fee.

NO ADDITIONS TO EVENTS WILL BE MADE BY TOURNAMENT ADMIN AFTER 12:00PM ON 10/15.

Cross Entering: You may only enter one debate event. Entering one debate event and one speaking event is permissible. Cross entering across the speaking events should be undertaken judiciously We will endeavor to protect cross entered students, but if a student is cross entered in three events or more, they should be recognize that there is some risk in that overexposure.

Judging: Each school will be required to provide reasonably qualified judges using this customary formula:

CX Debate: One judge per two teams or part thereof.

LD Debate: One judge per two entries or part thereof.

Speaking Events: One judge for each 6 entries or part thereof.

We reserve the right to use school judges in events outside their entries to cover other events.

We may use experienced varsity students to judge novice events

Missing judges will incur a $150 fee.

Events Offered:

Speech & Debate: Policy debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Congressional Debate, Novice CX, Novice LD, Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation.

Academic: Accounting, Calculator Applications, Current Events, Copy Editing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Headline Writing, Literary Criticism, Math, Number Sense, News Writing, Ready Writing, Spelling & Vocabulary, Social Studies, Science, Computer Science (Written & Hands On).

MATH & SCIENCE WILL HAVE THE TMSCA WEEK 1 TEST

ALL WRITING EVENTS MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN LAPTOPS, WE DO NOT HAVE COMPUTER LABS.

Hospitality will be available for judges & coaches.

A concession stand for students will have snacks & drinks all for $1/Each. However, we are unable to offer lunch, you will be on your own. We recommend one of our local pizza places (Slice, Rounders, or Kens).
