Judge Fees, Quotas, and Obligations

1 Congress judge covers 8 Congress debaters
1 speech judge covers 5 Speech entries (duo team counts as a single entry)
Each entry in Policy and World Schools is equal to 4 rounds of commitment
Each entry in LD and PF is equal to 2 rounds of commitment
Hired Congress Judges - $200.00
Hired Speech Judges - $200.00
Hired Policy, LD, PF, WS judges - $50 per uncovered round

Each judge may fulfill a commitment in at most ONE category (where the categories are Policy, LD, PF, WS, Congress, Speech). A judge cannot fulfill multiple obligations in varying categories without permission from the tournament directors.

Every school must provide at least half of its judging in every category.  Getting hired judges to come to New Orleans in December is difficult.  As exciting as our city may be for the average college student, some still value studying for exams.

Speech obligation:
Speech judges are obligated through finals, regardless of when all entries from your school have been eliminated. Specifically, this means that the number of judges you are obligated to cover for any preliminary round (in person or via hire) is equal to the number of judges you are obligated to cover in the semis AND finals.

Debate obligation:
After all entries from your school have been eliminated in a specific category, debate judges for that division are obligated through the first elimination round in which the number of participants is an integer power of two (i.e., the first FULL elimination round). For example, if a debate division breaks to a "partial" double octos and no one from you school breaks in that event, then the judge obligation is through the octos (in this case, judges will be obligated to be available for the partial doubles AND the octos).
