ONLINE PF Paradigm List
All Paradigms: Show HideHello there! I am a parent judge without formal debate training. I will listen attentively to both sides and take notes, and I will attend only to the arguments presented in the debate when making my decision.
Please keep your rate of delivery conversational and avoid jargon. Arguments should clearly extend from speech to speech, with the last speech telling me what a ballot for your side looks like and why that is a better option than a ballot for your opponent. Be kind and respectful to everyone in the room!
I will assign speaker points for articulation, word choice, and argument development.
Good luck!
Welcome! This will be my first-time judging, please be respectful and speak with clarity. Debate is not my area of expertise, so please use simple verbiage and elaborate your topic in simple terms. Thank you!
Build the value that is not overly complicated and should be relatable, and criterion should not be over technical. Critical argument should provide substantial evidence for their support. Make sure all claims are supported with specific, defined examples, no paraphrasing. Rebuttals should provide voters to address the important issues advanced in constructive speeches and extend arguments individually. As for speed, I do not mind (pretty open minded) as long as each word is understandable and clear for hearing. Please remember that mumbling words can be hard for your judge to evaluate you. However, it is safe to ask the judge at the beginning of the round just to be on the safe side. The focus should be winning the debate (more like convincing your judge), not just attacking a person's style or flaws of method. Remember that in order to win a round, respect towards your opponent is paramount. It is hard to find in favor of debaters who belittle or berate their opponent in or out of round. Graceful winners are as important as the one that did not win. Good luck Contestants.

Background/other notes:
University of Houston (2023-current)
Jordan High School (2020-2023)
I am a Policy debater at the University of Houston.
I competed mainly in Congressional Debate for all 4 years of high school with sprinkled experience in WSD and Extemp.
Please put me on the email chain (for policy people) and ask me for my email before the round starts.
Don't call me "judge" -- call me Cooper :D
Pronouns are they/them
CX/Policy:
Policy v Policy: I like these debates, generally. I think what’s key for me in evaluating these is proper framing of impacts and sufficient ev comparison. re-highlighting is great. Have clear weighing, give me clear overviews in 2AR’s and 2NR’s as to where your winning the debate.
Policy Aff v K: I really like these debates. I think the key here is the FW debate and sufficient aff analysis of neg alternatives. The aff needs to have a clear defense of policy action being able to resolve the K. Typically these debates devolve into incrementalism vs the alt (assuming the aff wins their FW interp). In this case I need very explicitly why either incrementalism is preferable to the alt or why incrementalism is fundamentally unable to resolve the K. On the link debate, the more specific the k link is the better. Typically, it’s pretty easy for the aff to weave out of non-1AC specific links so yeah. On impact calc here, if the K has a good link, the threshold for me voting on extinction outweighs is high. Perm arguments are more compelling to me alongside linking to aff to working to resolve the K.
K Aff v K: I love these debates lol. However, I’m not that familiar with every lit base. Therefore, explanations and overview of each K in the debate is key for my ability to adequately evaluate them. In these method debates, I just need good solvency deficit claims to either side. Or maybe more specifically adequate reasons as to why the starting point of the aff or the neg is the best starting point in order for understanding the topic.
General K Notes: In College thus far I've ran K’s on both the aff and the neg. I’m most familiar with Queer Theory, Settler Colonialism, Security, Weaponitis, Cap, and Ableism. I also have a surface level understanding of Afro-Pess, but for some of the more nuanced aspects of this argument im going to probably need a bit more explanation compared to other K’s. Outside of these arguments, my exposure to other lit is minimal. That does not mean I wont vote on other K's, it just means they need to be explained well.
T: Im gonna be so for real. I do not like T debates, but ill still vote on it. Interp's should be obvious and self evident. I define this as generally being realistic. I think most K aff's are mostly topical as long as there is a clear justification as to why the aff is the best or better starting point than pursuing a policy based aff or a topical plan. I'm willing to give a good amount of leeway to K aff's as long as they do what they need to on the T flow.
Theory: For theory arguments i need pretty explicit reasons as to why I should vote on it to reject the team. There are a lot of instances where if the violation is not significant enough I would definitely buy the argument that I should just tank speaks and not reject the team (obviously this does not include racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, etc.). This is more referring to things like one theory argument I heard recently that was a "power-tagging" violation. Justifications like "its unfair because we have to read their evidence", or anything to that effect, wont ever win in front of me because you should be skimming through evidence already. So yeah, just be realistic when banking rounds on theory violations. Most often, violations should be really obvious and justifiably unethical for me to vote on them.
Congress:
good arguments matter more to me than presentation. For me presentation is more of secondary "tie-breaker" when i have to compare competitors who both present good arguments. But good speaking will not discount bad argumentation and clash on my ballots.
A good argument in congress is not just a independently strong argument, but also needs to be a relevant point in context of the round. There should be a clear overview that connects your speech to the rest of the speeches in the round.
The later in the round you go, the more important it is to narrow down you speech to the main issues/points of clash in the round. That being said, if you argument is more constructive and less able to build off of other people arguments, then you should probably go earlier in the round. After the early speeches, every speech should begin to build off one of another through clash and connections to big constructive arguments in the round.
That isn't to say you shouldn't bring up new angles and ideas mid round, but there has to be a reason as to why what you are saying is important/needed in the round. And you should clearly communicate to me and the round why that is the case.
If you piggy-back off of other speakers, do something to add depth to what they said as opposed to throwing more evidence into their train of thought. Don't just rehash arguments, obviously.
I don't like when mid or late round speakers blatantly ignore previously made arguments that contradict/conflict with their argument. Make sure that you address every argument that interacts with your own. Also a side note, if you spoke early, use question blocks to poke holes in arguments that contradict yours. Its a good way to make sure your voice is still being heard late in the debate even if you spoke earlier.
Overall, just make sure you (both in speeches & questioning) engage the round by keeping your content relevant as the round evolves in addition to strong refutation of previous speakers.
Lastly, be respectful. Respect pronouns. Avoid agitation and be professional. Lack of composure or ignorance will definitely drop you on my ballot.
Have fun, its congress :D
LD:
Basically ditto what was I said for Policy.
Only difference is that I have no actual experience competing in LD although I have judged it.
So expect that my interpretation of LD rounds are done from a mind that is very oriented by Policy tech standards. This means I may not easily pick up on technical issues in round. That doesn't mean I won't vote based on them. But it means i need clear articulations of (especially FW debates in LD that are about criterion and values) what your winning and what the other team is not or has dropped.
PF:
I mainly care about strategy in PF. There are too many rounds I’ve seen were both sides make an initially decent argument and then refuse to interact with the others for the whole debate. I need to see weighing of all kinds in order to know whose argument is more important (assuming you can’t prove it to be wrong). Weighing will for sure make it 10x easier for me to vote for you if you do it properly. By the end of the round their should be clear points you've won on or at least that you can tell me you won on to make my job a lot easier.
I also like good presentation and professionalism in PF. Don’t be rude or condescending, that’s not going to make you look cool and smart lol. On a simular note, i don't have problems with spreading as long as you are clear and you sound good. Regardless of speed you need to still be sure to emphasize important points, links, blocks, etc.
for arguments themselves I need good framing, warranting, and impacts. By the end of the first speeches I should have a very clear grasp of the arguments in the round and there shouldn’t be a need for those arguments to be continuously readdressed and reframed throughout the rest of the round (because of vagueness/confusion). Long story short, if by the end of the first speech a can't grasp what the narrative of your arguments are then that's a problem.
Recently, Ive learned K's are thing in PF now? maybe thats always been a thing... idk. I need a clear explanation of how the K works in context of the pros policy action and also need a good reason why I should vote for the K over the magnitude of the pros impacts or why the K outweighs. To my knowledge, the concept of fiat is not a thing in PF. Therefore, I feel that i can only judge the round based on what is the "best argument". This makes judge instruction key. Make it clear what voting on the K does or why it wins the round.
WSD:
In Worlds I'm a pretty balanced judge: I love it when worlds speakers know how to present their case in an engaging way, but I don't like worlds teams that don't have the argumentation to match strong presentation.
Refutation and weighing are key.
By the end of both second speakers speeches i should already have some picture of what the main clash in the debate is as well as the groundwork for a path to ballot (early weighing, identification of the main clashes, etc.).
Be very clear with your arguments through the use of strong link chains & examples.
Also be nice to each other :D
Extemp:
You need good analysis that goes at least a step beyond whatever the article said during prep time.
I'm also looking for good delivery and persuasion.
don't crack jokes on topics that maybe are a bit more serious, make sure your intros flow well and match the topic that your speaking on.
I love jokes if they are funny and appropriate for the topic though.
Don't be afraid to utilize rhetoric and a bit of passion depending on the topic.
Email:bakerzachary0@gmail.com
Truth over tech: I don't think abusing link chains makes you a good debater. I'm willing to buy more abstract arguments to an extent I have solid general knowledge of most things political. The more complicated your argument the more clear your link chain should be. That being said as long as your argument isn't based around a lie or fatal mistake on your part I still require the other team to do the work and refute it.
Congress: I love clash, funny AGD's, and good analysis. Please refute the other competitors asap ,and directly reference who you are refuting. Everyone has a piece of paper with their name on it, it shouldn't be difficult to remember the representative your refuting's name. Please be cordial with your fellow competitors, sportsmanship is big virtue in my opinion. I expect you to be active in the chamber and ask good questions. 3 minute speeches are short make good use of your time. A good sponsorship should really contextualize what the legislation does.
If your going to PO I expect you to be efficient, and quick. But if you are inexperienced in a prelims round and still doing a good enough job that its not an issue I will not rank you down.
Debate: I am a traditional judge. In every Debate event I like a more lay round. Feel free to run theory if something is actually super abusive, but I've yet to vote on a theory argument. I do not like fast speed, it's one of the things I write most on speech round ballots. However if I can understand you and a doc isn't needed you can still get 30 speaks. However if you spread you can expect at most a low-point win.I consider myself to mostly be a policy-maker style judge.
Also finally I will not intervene and down you if you go against my preferences. But please take it as a guideline for what I understand, and feel comfortable voting for. No hard feelings if your style is better suited to the 2 other judges in the room :)
In LD: Value criterion is extremely important to me. I need to understand how different contentions/cards tie into your value criterion and why your VC outweighs.
In PF: I value more of a big picture voters speech than a line by line, the speech is 2 minutes so if you drop unimportant parts of the debate here you can win. With that said in PF I really prefer slower speaking even more than LD
Extemp: Have strong analysis and strong speaking skills, your time should be around 6:30. I like a good AGD, trust me I want to laugh out loud sometimes but I can't.
Platform/Interp: Delivery is critical especially for jokes, practice practice practice. If your unsure of how you are saying a joke ask someone before giving it to me as a judge. Moreover in Interp please don't scream/yell super loud especially if you are standing right next to me.

PFBC update: if your evidence does not have a tag at all, or it is functionally nothing (ie “concludes”, “explains”, etc), I will not flow it
General
I have been told that my paradigm is too short and non-specific. In lieu of adding a bunch of words that may or may not help you, here is a list of people that I regularly talk about debate with and/or tend to think about debate similarly: Patrick Fox (former debate partner), Holden Bukowsky (former teammate), Dylan Jones, Roberto Fernandez, Bryce Piotrowski, Eric Schwerdtfeger
speed is good, pls slow down a little on analytics
if harm has occurred in the round, i will generally let the debater that has been harmed decide whether they would like the debate to continue or not. in egregious instances, i reserve the right to end the debate with 0 speaks and contact tab. violence in the debate space is never ok and i will hold the line. if you have safety concerns about being around your opponent for any reason, please tell me via email or in round.
i am an educator first. that means that my first concern in every debate is that all students are able to access the space. doing things that make the round inaccessible like spreading when your opponent has asked you not to will result in low speaker points at a minimum. racism, transphobia, etc are obviously non-starters
you can use any pronouns for me
For online debate: you should always be recording locally in case of a tech issue
please do not send me a google doc - if your case is on google docs, download it as a PDF and send it as a PDF. Word docs > anything else
Specific arguments:
K/K affs: yes - you should err on the side of more alt/method explanation than less
Framework:
I view fw as a debate about models of debate - I agree a lot with Roberto Fernandez's paradigm on this
I tend to lean aff on fw debates for the sole reason that I think most neg framework debaters are terminally unable to get off of the doc and contextualize offense to the aff. If you can do that, I will be much more likely to vote neg. The issue that I find with k teams is that they rely too much on the top level arguments and neglect the line by line, so please be cognizant of both on the affirmative - and a smart negative team will exploit this. impact turns have their place but i am becoming increasingly less persuaded by them the more i judge. For the neg - the further from the resolution the aff is, the more persuaded i am by fw. your framework shell must interact with the aff in some meaningful way to be persuasive. the overarching theme here is interaction with the aff
To me, framework is a less persuasive option against k affs. Use your coaches, talk to your friends in the community, and learn how to engage in the specifics of k affs instead of only relying on framework to get the W.
DA/CP/Other policy arguments: I tend not to judge policy v policy debates but I like them. I was coached by traditional policy debaters, so I think things like delay counterplans are fun and am happy to vote on them. Please don't make me read evidence at the end of the round - you should be able to explain to me what your evidence says, what your opponents evidence says, and why yours is better.
Topicality/Theory:
I dont like friv theory (ex water bottle theory). absent a response, ill vote on it, but i have a very low threshold for answers.
I will vote on disclosure theory. disclosure is good.
Condo is fine, the amount of conditional off case positions/planks is directly related to how persuaded I am by condo as a 2ar option. it will be very difficult to win condo vs 1 condo off, but it will be very easy to win condo vs 6 condo off.
all theory shells should have a clear in round abuse story

LD Framework/phil:
Explain - If you understand it well enough to explain it to me I will understand it well enough to evaluate it fairly.
I am a lay judge. Please speak in a moderate speed and be respectful of each other. I would prefer a roadmap to know what I should expect. I am not a tech judge.
I am a first-time parent judge. Please clearly articulate your arguments and clearly tell me why you are winning the round. Please assume I have no knowledge on the topic. Every argument needs to have a claim, warrant, and impact. Speak slowly and clearly, especially since this is an online tournament. Please also keep your own times. Be polite, respectful, and have fun!
I've judged PF, LD, and WSD. I vote off the flow while also being mindful of speaks. No spreading but I can (probably) follow progressive arguments if they’re well explained. Please make judging easier for me by:
- Going for clarity: remember to signpost and go line by line. Note: I don’t flow the author(s) of cards so please summarize the card and it’s relevance to your argument
- Weigh impacts
- Tie arguments back to your framework

Debate is a game, first and foremost.
I qualified for the TOC Junior and Senior years and came into contact with virtually every type of argument
Summary of my debate style - I just enjoyed the activity while reading all types of arguments with my own spin on them. I think debate is often boring with debaters just reading blocks and not being innovative.
Please note that I have strong opinions on what debate should be, but I will not believe them automatically every round they have to be won just like any other argument. Tech>truth no exceptions.
Triggers - French Revolution and Freemasonry
I am not a fan of identity-based arguments. Please don't run arguments that are only valid based on your or your opponent's identity.

I am a former PF debater in high school but have been out of the circuit for several years. I've judged mostly PF and have minimal experience judging LD, so at this point I would consider myself a "flay" judge. I'm more comfortable with traditional arguments and less familiar with progressive/tech arguments.
With that being said, I'm open to evaluating progressive stuff IF I can understand it. Generally, this means speak slowly, explain things as though I've never heard it before (b/c I haven't), and minimize the jargon if you can help it.
For traditional debates, I'm fine with speed as long as you're speaking coherently. I like to see weighing in both summary and final focus. Overall, I need to see very clear extension of warrants and link chains throughout the debate for me to evaluate it properly, but ultimately I will vote for the team who presents the least mitigated link chain + best weighed impacts.
-Please go slow I can't keep up and I cant flow off docs so please go slow I need time to process and understand the complexities of the round
-I don't flow traditionally I take note of the big picture and who has presented more persuasively

Good luck!
hi guys, i know im a little late on this. im currently studying at the university of houston, class of 2026! i have some experience with speech in debate, so i like to judge on my free time. i take some time with my feedback (written), so my deepest apologies if it's not available right away.
im fairly new at this, so it is greatly appreciated when the motion is clearly stated as well as your substantials.
i don't mind if you speak fast because i know you guys are under a timer, but if you speak too fast to the point where i cannot understand, it will cost you speaker points.
my decision will be based on who i think best delivered their argument and supporting information. same for non-debate competitors, my decision will be based on your ability to deliver your speech. imo, these decisions are very subjective.
i wish you guys the best of luck, and hope my decisions and feedback help you guys out.
happy holidays :)
I am a traditional judge and go by the flow. I would like to see the consistency through the entire flow during debate rounds.
Please speak clearly, and do not rush! You'd rather get your point through me, not just throw out your points at me and your opponent(s).
Be polite during cross. Personally I read news everyday and I do research the debate topic for each month before I judge. I respect your opinions on each topic, your job is to explain your arguments logically and convince me!
Make sure your evidences are correct and up to date . I care both technics and truths.
Please track your time accurately. I will not track time for you during debate rounds, but I do pay attention to the time you would spend. If you spend more time as what you have said you would take, it is a cheating to me.
You are not required to send me the case doc. But if you prefer to do so,you can send it to my email: liugr@hotmail.com. I will use it during your case construction phase.
I am truth over tech, and I have never done debate.
I am a parent judge so CLARITY AND SPEAKING SLOWLY is necessary for me, and be sure to properly warrant all of your arguments.
I do not accept theories or K’s, reading them with me as your judge will result in an immediate loss.
Time your own speeches, and please be respectful in round. Any racism, sexism, or homophobia in your speech and your team will immediately lose.
Be sure to extend everything to the end, a dropped argument is a conceded argument. If your opponent asks for a card, I expect you to give it to them via chat. If you are presenting false evidence, then you will instantly lose.
I appreciate you going down your own flow, and make sure to signpost all of your arguments (i.e. on their first contention…)
Make cross examination: question, answer, question, answer. I do not want to see a response to your opponents answer unless it is a follow up question.
Have fun!
I'm a pretty chill judge. You can either call me Judge, Jaydev, or whatever else gets my Attention. But a little about myself, I'm a senior varsity Debate Captain at Elkins High School, so I can pretty confidently say I know debate. I also have done interp so I know what I am doing when I am judging it. Just be nice to me and your competitors, don't be that guy who rubs the room the wrong way, because it also rubs me the wrong way as well. Also be confident, just do your best because that's all you can do, so don't worry about the result. I have been in your shoes before so just give it all you have and I'll judge you fairly.
Interp:
I like to be entertained but do your own thing. Just get into, if your piece is supposed to be funny, make me laugh (I laugh at anything), if your piece is deep and emotional, make me cry (I cry easily).
Debate:
I have done LD and Congress, but my primary debate event is World Schools. I am a national qualifier who broke to trips in 2023 so I know what I am doing in debate. I look for a clash within a debate, as most argumentation is neutralized because both sides bring in rebuttals. Explain why, head to head, your argument is better than theirs, and if you have to in your debate event, WEIGH! I LOVE WEIGHING ❤️ ???? ???? . It's my favorite so please give me weighing, it makes my decisions much easier to render. One last note, tell me why your side wins, its just good practice for any debate event, but telling your judge why you win makes it easier for your judge to render a winner and understand the debate.
BIG NOTES:
HAVE FUN - that's why we are here, rounds shouldn't get too serious or toxic, if I see toxic or bad debate ethics I'm docking points, it's that simple,
DON'T SPREAD (unless ur in CX) - I HATE SPREADING, mostly because I write slowly, so don't spread unless you have to.
Extemp and Speech Event:
I love extemp and other speech events. I did impromptu and extemp throughout my debate career, and what I want to see out of your speech are two things. I want to see clear and coherent speech. If you have to slow down to be more fluent in your speech, do so, I'd rather hear a more fluent speech with terrible content than a messy speech that has good content (not really but you get the point). And secondly, have fun with it. In these speech events you're supposed to unleash your inner style of speech and I want to see that. So be funny, be charismatic in your speech, and just make the speech sound inviting rather than a PSA or public announcement.
I am a traditional LD and PF judge.
Persuasion is necessary. Moderate spreading is okay.
If you make a non-topical argument, I will not evaluate it.
My son wrote this paradigm
I am a parent judge, a father of 3 debaters. Although I am able to understand most arguments, I would prefer if you speak slow, as it will be hard for me to understand people who debate or speak too fast. As long as I can hear you and understand well, I should be able to understand the arguments.
Please enunciate and speak well.
Hello!
I am a parent judge with limited knowledge of debate. Please avoid using jargon. It is helpful for me to have a road map before each speech. I am really excited to judge. I encourage debators to speak at a comfortable pace and clearly demonstrate your positions.
I am a former CX competitor from the late 80s and early 90s from a small 3A district. To that end, my experience and preference falls within the traditional range and not progressive. While I can understand the nuances of it and appreciate its overall intent, it goes well outside of the traditional realm that I prefer. I want clear line by line, clash and impacts that are meaningful and arguments that are well fleshed out. I don't need theoretical situations and kritiks of the resolution. Debate what is given to you as the framers intended it to be debated. I would rather have one or two solid arguments that are carried through a round as opposed to superfluous argumentation that ends up being kicked out of anyway or that operates in a world that is far less meaningful than traditional argumentation.
When it comes to extemp, I am also a traditionalist and expect a speech that is well balanced and that answers the prompt a contestant has been given. (Attention Getter/Hook - Thesis - Points - Conclusion that wraps up). Source variety is as important to me as is the number of sources. Fluidity is the real key. Don't make the speech choppy and don't offer so much content that you are unable to go back and analyze what you've spoken about. This is particularly true when it comes to lots of stats and numbers; don't overload a speech with content on that level that there is no real understanding of how you have synthesized the information you've given. And if you are also a debater, please remember - this is a SPEAKING event, not a debate event.
For topics that err on the side of persuasive and controversial, I DO NOT have an issue with topics that you feel could be flash-points that you think bias will impact the outcome. As long as you can substantiate and articulate what you are talking about with credible information and good analysis, we'll be good and the ballot will be free of bias.
I believe that everyone has a voice which needs a platform to embrace self-expression, unique personalities, and the social construct of expressive speech in a safe, nurturing environment. As long as we follow the words of Benjamin Franklin, "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment," for ignorance shall not prevail!
It is imperative to be polite, purposeful. and punctual.
With Lincoln Douglas (LD), I prefer traditional value and criterion debate, impact calculus, solvency, and line-by-line. Speech should have obvious organization which allows me to make a well-informed decision, focusing on presentation, logic, argumentation, and conclusion with a summary to wrap up the topic presented.
With Public Forum (PF), I prefer line-by-line, impact calculus, solid evidence from valid sources, be polite, and time yourselves. There should be a pre-determined resolution based on current events and trends. I should hear valuable insights. If you are providing a "filler", this will guarantee a low score, especially if it is personally offensive to the opponent or other marginalized groups.
With World Schools, I prefer obvious teamwork, focused on the issue presented with in-depth, quality argumentation creating solves with real-world examples while challenging the opposing team on a principled level.
With Congress, I look for proper parliamentary procedures and clarity of delivery through rigor, focused on democracy and clarity of ideas, seriousness in demeanor, and effective empowerment in speaking extemporaneously about the topic. Authenticity with clear speaking points such as sentence structure, eye contact, transitions, and word choice. The standard of decorum must be met.
In terms of speaking events, be purposeful when presenting the piece(s) to the extent that I feel as if you wrote it and expressed it with rigor, intensity, and passion.
You've got this!

TL;DR: The easiest way to win my ballot is through clarity & weighing. Give me clear warrants and impacts and explain why those impacts matter more than the opposition and you will get my vote. Feel free to run whatever material you'd like to but please make sure you can justify your argument. Speech & Debate is about developing communication and critical thinking skills. Be flexible in your rounds, speak confidently, and most importantly enjoy and do your best!
Specifics
1. Please weigh and extend important arguments throughout each speech! It's extremely important to flow your arguments throughout the round, this includes summary and final focus. This doesn’t mean you should rush and attempt to re-read your case, just focus on the main takeaways and the most important points of the round. It is equally important to effectively weigh their arguments and impacts in the round, this is the quickest way to win the round.
2. Please be polite and professional in CX. Ask the hard hitting questions without being condescending or rude. Most judges with previous debate experience tell when an argument doesn’t logically follow through. CX isn't a time to be over dominant, it should be used to point out flaws in your opponents case.
3. I appreciate well-reasoned arguments backed by credible evidence. Debaters should provide sources to support their claims, and as a judge I'll assess the quality and relevance of the evidence presented. If there is an issue or a lot of attention around a specific piece of evidence throughout the round, I'll be more than happy to take a look once the round is over.
As a parent volunteer, I am not a professional judge. I prefer a speed not too fast. such as not exceeding 5 if the speed scale is 1 to 10. But I have judged LD & PF for several years. I understand the requirements of PF & LD.
Hi, I am parent judge and I've judged IEs and debate during the 22-23 debate season for TFA and NSDA District.
IEs:
For speech delivery, I appreciate that you speak clearly without excessive word crutches. Use time wisely to fully develop the speech. Fluid speech and professional mannerisms will be noted.
On EXTEMPT/INF/OO, make sure your points discussed clearly address the question that you’ve chosen. Following the standard speech outline and including clear impact analysis would help. Cite your sources. I read broadly about economics, geopolitics and technologies on a regularly basis. Logical analysis of event and impact will be noted.
On INTERP, it is a performance and characterization is important. All movements (gestures, head, and other body movements) are done with purpose.
Debate:
- I do not mind speed as long as words can be understood. I also evaluate on speaking ability.
- I will evaluate how each side address other’s arguments with good logic and evidence.
- Off-clock road map is much appreciated.
