tech > truth in every scenario 100%
i dont care what you read and i dont care what speed its at
down for everything
I prefer email chain, but speech drop works- my email is Duha.azaz@barstowschool.org
My pronouns are she/her/hers. You can call me Judge or Duha.
Be nice and have fun! A round is just a round and being nice won't hurt, it'll actually help your speaks.
Please have your camera on for online debate
Top level
- IMPACT CALC PLSSS
- I need JUDGE INSTRUCTION
- Tech over truth
- I yell clear if I don't understand you, and I'll do it as many times as necessary
- HAVE CLEAR WARRANTS IN YOUR EXTENSIONS PLSSS, shadow extensions are not real extensions.
- ANY bigotry or hate speech will result in an automatic 24 (or lower) speaks, L, and a call to tab and your coach(es).
- Overviews are nice, but more than 30 seconds is too much
- I prefer plan text at the top of the speech really helps so I know what the aff is but I'll live if it's in the middle.
- Be respectful! You don't look as cool as you think you do being rude to the other team
- Jokes are funny, and can't really go wrong. They would be nice for your speaks just don't be mean.
- SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to understand you (especially analytics) If it doesn't get on my flow, it doesn't get on my ballot.
- I'll vote on anything, I'm not really against any args.
POLICY
K affs
I'm not particularly well-versed with k-affs but as long as you explain it well you'll be fine. Be ready to defend your framework and explain it to me!!! if you run one, explain your IL, impacts, the same if not better than a policy aff would. I'm most familiar with cap and fem, but don't let me stop you from running whatever you want. You can run whatever you want and win on it if you explain it well and prove aff solvency etc.
Policy affs
I love policy affs and it's mostly what I run, so I understand them. I tend to like soft left impacts, (like struc vio) but I'll vote for whatever as long as you prove an IMP happens without the plan. Defend your IL, don't let the neg call out your link chain as bad and win that.
FW
"Fairness" or "education" are not impacts, they're words without explanations. Tell me why education or fairness matter, or I won't evaluate them as impacts. Policy args can't say their impact is "war", so framework args don't get to just say "fairness" with no impact explanation/calc. I agree that I am an educator but I can be convinced of the other side.
DAs
DAs are amazing and I love them, but please I need a good link chain and credible reasons why your impacts o/w. I think da o/w is super effective and but I need it to be a well-explained da o/w block. I think ptx da's are fun, just explain it.
CPs
You need a plan text and you need solvency. Your cp's need to be good and competitive. I think process cp's are kinda boring to run (that's just me), but if you run it and do it well I'll vote for it. I'll be sympathetic to aff theory claims on fairness if your counterplan is cheaty.
Ks
I love Ks, and (again) I love soft left impacts on Ks, but I'm good with whatever you want to run. I'm most familiar with cap and fem, and the basics of queer theory, but run whatever you like. Having no idea what you're talking about on your K, thats a good way to lose speaks. Know how to explain your alt and FW. You can definitely kick the alt and go for FW but explain it like I'm a baby. I buy that K gets links to aff's links and scholarships, but then aff gets more IMP weight.
Theory
Theory args should be well written and clear. Hidden args will drop your speaks, it just shows that you know your args aren't good enough to win on flat out. I like T, just again, explain it to me like I'm a baby. Impact out your theory args. "Ruins fairness" is not an impact unless you tell me why fairness matters. Condo is fine until a point, but i can be convinced otherwise.
Cross X
I'm fine with open cross, and cross does affect speaks. Try not to contradict yourself, but i will take into account cross if a contradiction is brought up during speeches etc. Stand your ground in cross and I'm fine with you cutting people off to get your piece in. Be agressive, don't be mean. I've seen TOO many rounds with people yelling in cross and I will cut speaks.
CONGRESS
I know the topics pretty well, but explanation never hurt anyone
Its been a hot second since I've done congress, so I seriously encourage you to keep your own precedence and POLITELY tell me if you think I messed up
Have fun
Speak so I can hear you.
If I can't hear you, I'll tell you one time, but after that I'm only judging what I hear
Utilize cross ex.
Use evidence outside the packet or what you coach just gives you, new args are a great way to get my attention in speeches.
If y'all have any questions before or after the round ASK ME!!! Debate is an educational space and I want y'all to learn.
LD
I don't do LD, but I don't know anything. Assume I am a literal child.
Don't use a bunch ld-specific jargon or assume I know how everything works.
Explainwhy you're winning this round (JUDGE INSTRUCTION!!!)
Keep in mind I'm used to policy, so I'm going to weigh your impacts at the end of the round above most else.
explain your value and why it matters
PUBLIC FORUM
Just read my policy section
Don't yell over people in cross-fire
if y'all read this far, tell me a joke and I'll boost your speaks on how good it is.
I favor neither technique nor truth but rather structural integrity: I judge arguments primarily on the basis of their internal coherence and practical salience. Strong internal linkages, framework and kritik will be judged favorably.
Roadmapping: I prefer to know how you are structuring and evidencing your argument in advance. I am a novice to debate judging, so please be gentle with me vis a vis spreading, may explicitly ask you to slow down!
Fairness-based arguments should be emergent from the course of the argument, not pre-decided. Sharpness in cross-examination will also be rewarded. Finally, burden of proof is on the affirmative side vis a vis coherently arguing against/accounting for the counters of the negative side.
Try your best to have fun . Speed at your own risk

General
1. You say whatever I flow
2 tech> truth
3. Flow and ideally correctly with multiple pieces of paper and not with the paper horizontally
4. I like spreading
5. Big stock issues guy if neg wins one stock issue they win debate
6. Big impact calc guy
7. Love clash
8. Be passionate and respectful not rude and talking over each other this is not a presidential debate
9. In general not a huge fan for just doing a bunch of different arguments just to see if one sticks
Policy
T
I love a good topicality but don't put one just to cover all stock issues especially if on neg.
If the neg runs a T and the aff drops it and the neg brings this up I will vote neg
I like a good topicality but do not put a topicality just to cover all stock issues.
K, FW and Theory
I am fine with K arg but I need a strong link
Often times I prefer Policy Arguments since I chose Policy over LD
Usually not an approach I would take but can be very powerful and moving
Like how my old coach to Barstow Gabe Cook who taught a pairing which talked about challenges against minorities in debate and they were very successful with it
Also for FW need very strong link and more analytics
DA
I value the link and impact equally because either without the other is a very weak argument. If there is a bad link then the impact does not matter but if the impact is very low you most likely will lose to impact calc to the aff. Generally speaking I like DA a lot.
CP
I like a good CP that is case specific and tailored to counter weakness in the aff. I think it shows that there is a better solution to resolution and back and forth between aff is entertaining. Overall I think if you are to use a CP it has to be well articulated and prove something is seriously flawed with aff.
Other stuff
Don't be rude
Don't make fun of your opponents for any reason
If you believe your opponents have violated a rule that should make them lose the debate you should stop the round immediately
I'm Ria I am a second year cx debater for Pembroke

cx
Do whatever arguments you want, I'll flow it if your gonna run a K please explain it well, explain fw to me too, and have a good impact. I really enjoy a good fem k and love a good cp If you're gonna run a DA you need to explain clearly how it turns/outweighs case. PLEASE PLEASE SIGNPOST it makes life so much easier when I flow. I like a good T debate and I'm most likely gonna vote based on who explains it better. Speaker points wise I'm not too harsh I really love watching a good debate. Please obviously don't go over time in speeches I will allow a ten second grace period, but after that I will start deducting speaker points
PFD
I debated public forum at one tournament and in middle school, so pretty lay. With time don’t go over I will allow a ten second grace period before deducting speaker points. I know the basics of PFD and know how it works, I know cx can get really heated but please be civil and kind otherwise I will start deducting speaker points. I also love some impact calc so throw some of that in.
LD
no idea what you do in LD i am very lay. I know there are value criterions ? and other stuff but yeah.
Have fun, be civil, and treat everyone with respect. Any homophobia, racism, or sexism will result in an automatic loss.

I will vote on dumb arguments, run whatever you want.
Please don't yell at each other, be respectful, no discrimination of any kind.
Explain your arguments to me like I am dumb.
Tech>Truth
Make sure to be clear and signpost throughout your speeches.
Judge instruction is huge
I start speaker points at 28.5 and go from there.
CX:
Open cross is fine.
Please don't talk over your partner and just scream at your opponents.
Jokes during cross are great and can help you get more speaker points but please make them funny.
Kritiks:
Kritiks are awesome, I think people should go for them more often. Just make sure to contextualize your link and alt.
Case:
Case debate gets neglected really often but good case debate can really help you win a round. Please don't forget about case. I'm cool with K affs as well.
DA's:
Not much to say here. Da's are cool, extend them, and explain your arguments well.
CP'S:
Counterplans can be done really well. Make sure to have a good net benefit and a good plan. Make sure to be distinct and don't run a counterplan that is too similar to the aff.
T:
I've not watched a ton of T debates, but it can be done really effectively if done well. If you go for T, you better have really strong reasoning behind the args you make otherwise it will be a really hard uphill battle for you.
My name is Adi Rastogi, I am a 2nd year Policy Debater

Judge instruction is huge
I start speaks at 28.5 and go from there.
I flow on my computer
Case
Case debate get neglected sometimes but the case debate can be really good for helping you win a round. Don't forget about it.
CX
I don't flow CX, but I am very attentive and you should treat me like a lay judge because these moments will be impactful.
Open Cross is fine but dont talk over your partner. Remember, you are a team.
K
Kritiks are hard to go for. If you go for it well that will help your case. Make sure to explain the link and alt well.
DA
not much to say here, Da's are great but make sure to extend it if you aim to go for it. Explain your args well.
CP
Counterplans can change the debate. Make sure to explain the net benefit and why your choice is better. Make sure to be distinct and don't run a counterplan that is too similar to the case.
T
Theory debates can get complicated, just make sure to really explain the reasoning behind the args you make. Explain what violation the aff has and how that impacts the debate.

Other stuff depends.
T:
T can be good
K:
Ill try my best to understand but explain your stuff well
Not the best with Ks so explain what you’re trying to say

Goofy disads can win if I can believe them
I like PTX disads

My name is Rish. I am a senior at the Barstow School and have debated since 7th grade.
I don't care about how fast you go, just make sure that you are signposting and I know when you move on to the next card/argument.
don't be racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.
Case:
Don't take case too loosely. Impact extensions, calc, and evidence comparison are great and can help (make sure it's clear that you are ev comparing).
I don't care what aff it is but you must be able to defend it and know it well.
DAs
I like DAs. They're pretty fun. have good links. try not to have the same impact as the aff. kinda makes it useless ngl.
CPs
I like CPs. They're pretty fun. not much to say there. just do you.
Ks
I don't really like Ks because I think they're OP. but i wouldn't mind if you run them. Just make sure you know what you're talking about.
CX
I don't mind it being open. Don't hack at each other. Keep it civil.
Hi, I'm currently a high school judge right now (for CX). I do not like spreading and prefer people who speak confidently and clearly.
